Hi, I had an interview about 10 days ago with a recruitment company for some temp work for one of their clients. I thought the interview went well enough but when I didnt hear anything back in the coming days I figured it was a no go. Anyway I got an automated text earlier from the recruitment company saying thank you for attending the interview and that they are awaiting clients instructions and will contact me in due course. Since it is an automated text I am thinking it is just the same as a standard reply you get through email saying you didn't get the job but thanks for applying bla bla....

However at the interview they mentioned that there would be an induction first where if selected you would go and do a training day. They also mentioned that the work is upcoming so would begin in the coming weeks rather than straight away. So when the text says 'waiting on clients instructions and will contact you in due course' I am sort of wondering does this maybe imply that I have been selected for induction training. Obviously I will know one way or the other very soon when they get back to me but the text just has me very curious. I'm probably reading way too much in to it and am not getting my hopes up or anything but just wondering if anybody has had a similar response from a recruitment company?

    Cheers!

Taking it at face value it sounds like a 'courtesy' contact. Generally these are either neutral or positive. By this I mean they either haven't picked people for the position yet and you're still under consideration or they've picked/shortlisted people for the position and you've got a decent chance of a job. It's nice to see the agency doing this rather than leaving candidates hanging.

Yeah this is what I am thinking. Since it is an automated message and all it seems like a pretty standard courtesy reply. However since the interview was over a week ago it seems a bit weird that they would send a message at this stages saying that they are awaiting clients instructions and then turn around and say you were unsuccessful. I just think it would be more normal for them to send the usual courtesy rejection reply if you were not been shortlisted. Anyway obviously no way to know until I hear back.

Actually, speaking from personal experience, sometimes there can be delays. I've been left waiting a few weeks for a job offer after an interview because decision making managers have been away. I got a courtesy call after just under two weeks to say I was still under consideration but it turned out I had been picked but a particular signature was required to hire me.

From the hiring side of things I've also seen delays getting job offers processed through large inefficient HR departments too.

You could ring and ask the agency as someone else suggested?

I know this is silly but I don't want to sound like I am needy or too pushy. If I don't hear by the end of the week yeah I will give them a call.

    Thanks!
