UK/EU driving licence

Hi all, and sorry if this has been mentioned before...

I am originally from the UK and have only ever ridden motorbikes (advanced licence)

In the past 18 months I have moved to rural western Ireland and have finally decided that, yes, it's time to take a car test!

My question is that my full UK (EU) motorcycle license covers provisional for cars. Will this be okay to use for the purpose of taking my car tests in Ireland or will I need to arrange an Irish licence? I am a full time Irish resident and have held the provisional since 1984 (That sounds like a long time ago!!!:o)

    Thanks for your advice.

    Tim

    Hi Permabear,

Sorry, maybe I wasn't as clear as I should have been.

My current licence, whilst covering motorcycles, is also a permanent provisional for cars.

I realise that the theory test has to be taken, and that is why I was asking if my UK provisional car licence will suffice for the theory application or if I will need to specifically apply for an Irish licence. They are all just EU licenses now after all.

Sorry, I muddied the waters a bit with all the bike talk!;)

Thanks for the quick reply... I always manage to confuse the issue!

That is the answer that I was expecting, but if there was I way to beat the red tape I'd have taken it!

    Cheers again...:D

Yeah, saw the new requirements... to be honest these are probably just as well in my case as the last time I sat behind a steering wheel would have been <counts on fingers, then removes socks> about 25 years ago!!!!
