    Hi Guys

Maybe looking at petrol 1.6 Audi A3 Sportback. Lovely car but just wondering what the Ltr per 100 KM. I was told it would do between 35 and 43 MPG? is this correct? can anyone tell me what you would be doing going at 120KM on Motorway?

Oh yeah easy way to convert from MPG to ltr/100KM. Divide the number 235.215 by the MPG, so I got number of 39MPG from website for Audi which converts to 6ltr per 100km. Just ok!!

I had that engine in a similar car. It's very thirsty.

Also, for imperial mpg it's 282.5 and not 235.215.

ITs the 102Bhp engine, was thinking it may be a bit small as car is a 5 door. I was driving today and was at around 3,000 revs and only doing 100KM

    Hi OP,

I drove an '04 reg 1.6 A3 from Limerick to Dublin last year, mostly motorway driving at 120kmph and a little city driving.

It cost me €70 return and the tank was full when I left Limerick..have to say I was very disappointed, as I had also owned a 1.6 '02 peugeot 307 prior to that and it'd do far better mpg!

Sorry I've not got proper mpg figures!

I used to own the older model a3 1.6 and the max i would get was 38mpg. Not too bad to be honest. If you are doing high miles, it would be worth going for the 1.9 diesel model though.

The standard 1.6 is a poor engine tbh. The 1.6 FSI is much better (115hp). I reckon the GTI 2.0 TFSI engine is arguably pound for pound more efficient than the bog 1.6 in the VAG range when performance is factored in as well.

Drove a 1.6 102 dublin to cork, full tank and struggled to keep up speed on hills.
As discussed on previous thread its not a great engine.

Like paying for a slightly less expensive Harman Kardon stereo with alba innards.

Problem is getting this engine with the extra's, was cruise control etc and this was the only one I could find in 08 time frame.

Doing Cork to Clonmel at 130kph motorway cruise and about 30km national road after it I was getting about 28mpg.

The only way I could break 40mpg on that spin was air con off, cruise at under 100kph and plan every manoeuvre well in advance.

Yeah from Dublin to Cork, motorway all the way and sitting at 130kph in Mondeo 1.8TDCI was getting around 5ltr per 100km. About 47 mpg using US equation

Would like to be getting something similar

You should look at buying a diesel if you want economy. I'm getting 42-45 on that run now in one.

Just had a look through cars in this range and came up with BMW 1 Series. 116i seems to be a nice car and gets good review, any idea's? never driven one!!:D

You seem to be worried about fuel consumption. Look at a 118d or 120d. The 1 series is a fine car imo if you like the looks and don't need a decent boot or rear space.

Not a big concern to be honest, its the wifey's car, we where going to buy new but looks like getting good enough trade in on 01 Cleo the Clio so having a look at second hands. She has always driven a petrol and I drive a diesel(milage is very very high with work).

She is just looking for nice car, she loves the Audi A3's, but something like that, with couple of extra's, main one is sunroof is a must, and just nice to look at, prob looking around the 08 time frame. So far looked at A3's and the 1 series. Just read boot space is bad on it which is a worry, how bad?
