Always push them as far as you can for a discount, the marked prices are just for show really. They'll knock off at least a couple of hundred without you really asking. I got 700 off the marked price in appelbys (last year).

O God no it's not a myth! You should be able to negotiate in and around the 10% margin. In fact in an service industry or shopping for products/goods its worth asking.

Think about it ...if you were in business would you be prepared to lose a customer for say 8%? But on the other hand you may be willing to lose custom if they were pushing for 15%...... it becomes not worth your while.

I think the key here is not to be embarrassed, it quite normal to haggle a little. We can all be a bit Irish when it comes to haggling :)

Shop around, we have been to most jewelers in Dublin City Center at this stage many took 10-20% off without any haggling! Jewelery markup is about 100%. Talking to Voltaire about getting the one she wants for hopefully better then the 10-20% that others were offering.

Jwellery markup can be up to 300% believe it or not. Haggling in appleby's will not be easy though. Much easier to haggle in Breretons or the like.

Guys, i need some help, do you know if buying an engagement ring in Krakow, Poland is a good idea. I am going there soon with herslf and was thinking of buying it while there. Is there value there? Is it advisable rather than huge amounts of money here....Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
