Bit of a long post here sorry..

I went to the hairdressers on Saturday to have a simple wash, cut and blowdry done as I was going to a christening that day..

I washed my own hair before I went, as I always do, even though it's being washed anyway I just have a thing about having clean hair when I know someone will be touching it..

Anyway, my hair was fine when I left my house.. went over and the girl washed and conditioned it and sat me infront of the mirror..

Just before she started cutting she came over to me rubbing something in her hands and then ran it through my hair with her fingers.. I thought nothing of it as I just assumed it was a serum or some sort of styling cream..

Anyway when she started blow drying it she commented that I had "very oily hair" and asked me what shampoo I used.. I told her and she said "yeah you really need something more deep cleansing" again I thought nothing of it as hairdressers often try to give you advice/push their products on you..

Anyway after AGES of her trying to dry it, she again commented that the hair felt quite heavy and that it felt like there was "something in it" and she kept saying it, but as I was in a hurry to get out of there and get dressed I just left her to it.. in the end she had to back comb the roots of my hair to get it to style.. I've never had this before at a hairdressers.. My hair is quite light and straight and always washes well for me.. When I got home I was quite disgusted as my hair just looked thick with grease.. I had to just tie it up in the end because I was running late for the mass.. Complete waste of the 40 quid I paid her tbh.. but that was only the start of my problems.

So here I am 3 days and about 10 shampoos later and it is still stuck to my head :( I've used nothing only my usual shampoo, no conditioner, NOTHING else.. and when I try to wash it I can't even get a lather up, so there is definately something (I would say oil based) in my hair!!

I went to a different salon this morning to get a second opinion and the girl said there is definately something in my hair.. it's not even oily it just feels sticky!!! the whole top layer of my hair is thick/slick with this product and I have no idea what it is..

After getting my second opinion I went into the original salon where I had it done on Saturday and asked the girl straight out what did she put in my hair and her response was "Nothing just a bit of hair spray" and when I put it to her that she had come over rubbing something in her hands before she started cutting she denied it

Any hairdressers out there might have a clue what she could have put in my hair to make it go like this??

They've offered to try and wash it out for me today but I have nobody to look after my baby.. so I'm going back in the morning.. althought they're still not taking any responsiblity for it..

To say I'm annoyed is the understatement of the year.. grrrrrrr

If your hair isn't coloured you might try shampooing with fairy liquid and see if that cuts through the product. Otherwise there are shampoos designed to remove product build-up one of them might work. DO NOT use washing-up liquid on coloured hair as it will remove the colour.

I would go back again and speak to the owner/manager. Maybe she put something they use for the 12 week blow dry in by mistake! It sounds strange.

Sounds mad. Would you try fairy/washing up liquid?

Thanks girls, yes the manager/owner was there this morning when I went in.. it's only a small salon, they're not long open.. As expected they both backed each other up and kept asking me what I've been putting in my hair since then.. Very frustrating, I told them I've only been washing it with my usual shampoo.. I'd say they'd go to the ends of the Earth to avoid any responsibility tbh

I'm going to try the Fairy liquid approach, I don't want to have to go back over there if I can avoid it after confronting them.. I have another appointment booked for my own Son's christening now next week.. needless to say that's getting cancelled!! Here's hoping my hair is clean by then

Would 12 week blowdry serum do that?? I was thinking she must have put something in that she shouldn't alright by the way she kept going on about getting a deep cleansing shampoo to it.. I'm absolutely furious..

I don't know if it would do that or not but it's possible since it lasts 12 wks! Do they do the 12 wk blow dry in that salon?

That's terrible. I've get the money back and expect compensation for the amount of hassle trying to get your hair back to it's normal state! I'd ask them to check the cctv tapes now, because they might wipe them after a while.

no it wouldnt be the 12 week blowdry - it takes alot more than just to put it into the hair for it to work. Its usually thoroughly dried in and hair is straightened for ages to seal it in.
Maybe it was some sort of wax....
Maybe it was a bad batch of hairspray?
You mentioned that you didnt use conditioner since...maybe try using conditioner? It might soften whatever it is in your hair and get it to wash out easier?

Really hope you find somehting that works...it sounds very frustrating.

I wash my hair twice a week using shampoo and nothing else.

Anything more and my hair would be oily and stuck to my head with overwashing.
You have had your hair washed about 12 times in 3 days?

She is trying to wash whatever it is out of her hair. I dont think this is a normal hairwashing pattern?!

OP I used a shampoo before, I think it was called De-gunk. it was made for getting rid of build up of hair products like gel, mousse, hairspray etc. As far as I remember it was made by Brylcreem. The last time I saw it was in Dunnes Stores. If you can find it, its great for cleaning all sorts of product from your hair.

I had the exact same problem in a hairdresser years back - fairy liquid got it out, the hairdresser resorted to it when I went back. Took a few washes tho but it was squeaky clean then. If you try it do use an intensive conditioner afterwards. It was a serum she had put in that caused the problem.

Managed to do it myself on a much milder basis a couple of years ago, I can only assume it was johnsons baby softwash that I was using as shower gel at the time, wasn't anything near as sticky as the serum disaster, but again fairy liquid saved the day, and didn't seem to damage my colour on a once off but I had highlights, it'd probably wreck a semi.

Id say it was serum she put in it, and too much of it! A few years ago I tried serum for the first time, I didn’t know how much to put in so I squirted about 5 pumps (enough to cover my palm) into my hand and massaged it all over my hair. When I tried to dry it, it just wouldn’t dry, it was sticky and looked like I hadn’t washed my hair in weeks.:o
Over the next week I tried washing it countless times with shampoo and scalding water at one point, but still it had a greasy look. After searching the internet I tired Fairy and presto it was gone! :)
Id give it a try, I know it’s not recommended for dyed hair, but I think a once off wash with it wouldn’t do too much damage.

Have you tried rubbing shampoo into dry hair/scalp? When I used to put rosemary oil onto my scalp this is how I got it out. Rub shampoo into your hair and scalp before wetting your hair, then rinse and shampoo again as normal. That should work.

I think the Fairy Liquid has done the trick :) thanks guys..

If any is left in your hair, massage talcum powder through it and it absorbs the excess, which can then be shampooed away. Worked wonders when my friends little son decided to style his hair - with Vaseline!:)

I would second the talcum pwder as I put vaseline in my hair before also and it wouldn't come out even though I washed it several times but the talcum powder did the trick

Hmm sounds to me like Moroccanoil? I use it in my hair and if I put in too much or use it too often it makes my hair feel really slick kind of like you describe, it would certainly cause that effect if more than a few drops are used! Moroccanoil is great when used sparingly though I just want to add lol
