    Hi guys,

Sorry i cant find the proper forum for this so ill post here, mods move if needed. Ok heres goes.

I want to buy a car, im 24 and i had a car a few years back, but my brother crashed it like the good boy he is. He was named on my insurance so i lost my no claims and had a black spot on my name. Now any insurance i try and take out costs me 2k at least.

I was trying to work out if i buy the car can i put my mother down as main driver and me as a named? the problem i think i might have is that she has a policy on her own car atm and they wont insure me because of the accident. So my question is, can you have 2 policies on 2 different cars with her as the named driver?

    Cheers!

your car with your name on the books with the mother as the owner on the insurance?
they can figure that one out, and it'll be fraud, no payout

As long as the two of you live at the same address and your family its fine for one person to own the car and another insure it

Thats not what any insurance company told me, someone else cant be main insurer on a car that isn't in their name, relation to owner or address makes no difference.
I could do a temp transfer to a car i didn't own, but thats all they allowed me to do.

What if you just got your mam to buy it (give her the money) so it's reg'd in her name too? When you want to sell it you can just do the selling on her behalf and have her give you the money when she receives it....

No lies there so you should be okay....?

Its still insurance fraud - that and insuring 2 cars at the same time doesn't work so well

Insurance company see a mother taking out a second policy and having her son as named, if you worked in insurance, who do you think would be driving the second car more?

One person can't have two seperate policies on two different cars!!! Don't let anyone tell you different because its the law!!! You wouldn't consider gettin a small van eg. golf or focus because a person can have a private insurance policy and a commercial policy and all vehicles in their name!

it's not. when it comes to a claim, they will use the insurable interest bullcrap .. trust me i know ...

as far as i remember, you can have two policies ... one on each car, but you can only use a no claims bonus once.

tbh .. i don't see the fraud .. not saying that the insurance companies won't have an issue .. but i'm not seeing the fraud part.

This is the current leader, in a strong field, for the most made up "fact" in this thread.

Any individual can have as many cars and motor policies as they wish to have.

The issue is who the main driver actually is, and whether this was properly disclosed at proposal time.

Ok so the question is, do i go for it?

You are 100% incorrect on both of the above points

if im reading what hes asking right there is insurable interest you cant have two policys on a car that is fraud but you can have one person own the car and another insure it as long as there family and are at the same address. I was a claims handler for years the insurance company would chance its arm and try to refuse payment if there was a claim but you mention the ombudsman and there wont be a problem.

    Trust me i know

OP if your extra unsure change your car into your mothers name its a very simple process and the main issue is solved you would just be a named driver on her second car then

    go for it..
as far as i know, once the car is in your mothers name, she can be the main driver..
the only time i heard of a person being refused insurance is because he was looking to get insured on his 8th car in a 12 month period.. and even then he got insured after a few polite words..

ok ill make this fairly easy to answer.

    1. I want to own the car, but insure my mother as main driver, is this fraud if she uses the car too?
    2. What happens if she tried to insure me on her policy but Axa refuse to insure me because of the crash, is it still illegal?

Is that why "was" and not you "are" in the industry? :pac:

1.) due to personal experience i was insured on my own car but the car had to be in my mothers name and i was under her name on the policy. 2.0 mondeo at 18 years old... ya can see why..:)
who ever is the main driver on the policy must own the car as far as i know.

    2) you said you wher 24?? could you wait till you are 25 because then you enter the higher age bracket which in trend tends to be cheaper. also if you state that you whernt driving at the accident and that it was just your car does that give you any ground to stand on?
    have you shopped about?

I have two separate policies on two cars, but NCB only on one. Should I ring my insurance company and tell them they're breaking the law?

Got a really good quote for having two cars too...

Why not just take out a policy as normal, and get your brother to pay the extra?

After all, you are really after losing out because of his mistake.

I might just pay half then do the rest monthly, id rather have insurance in my name tbh...
