Mazda 6 driver door won't open.

I have a '04 Mazda 6 and even though the lock button on the drivers door is moving from locked to unlocked the door won't open. When I pull the handle (inside or out) the door is acting like it's still locked. It is also making extra clicking noises when I try activate the C/L.

My biggest problem is how to open the door to even get in to look at it...

Any advice or experience on this would be great.

When you pull the door latch does it offer any resistance or feel floppy?

The first thing I'd try is some brute force - whack the drivers door trim with your fist and then a soft mallet (place some card between mallet and door). You might get away with that. If that fails then removing the trim is the next move and possibly a pain in the ass with the seat in situ.

With the button down, try open the door a few times then try it with the button up. just keep fiddling around and see what happens.

I'll try the brute force, might get lucky and free it up.

tried fiddling with it with no joy, i'll post how I get on anyway for interest sake.

    TY,

Is there not a key hole? Try it with the key rather than the fob. You may be able to physically move the mechanism by doing it that way rather than relying on an electric motor.

Brute force and ignorance unfortunately will not get you sorted. Unfortunately for you the deadlock mechanism sounds like it has activated within the lock and its a pretty tough job to open it without causing some sort of damage-albeit minor enough. It involves removing the inner door card from the affected door (which is difficult to do with the door closed and the seat in position). Unless you are familiar with the inner workings of the door lock it's all but impossible to explain how to amend the failure. If you want to PM me i can organise to get you sorted though. :D

Hi maztech. My cousin has this exact problem with his 2004 mazda6. Could you give some advice on how to get the drivers door open please. All other doors lock and unlock and open fine. The drivers locking knob goes back and forth fully like all the others doors but won't open. We've got the door card partly off and bypassed the c/l acuator but still no luck. Any ideah if we can manipulate the catch somehow? regards, chris

    Hi Chris.
What you've got to do is try to remove as much of the plastic door lock covering as possible (it's not a pleasant job) where you will eventually uncover a small spring loaded lever. Move it in the opposite direction to where it is currently positioned. This is the dead-lock mechanism. You should now, be able to open the door. Apply plenty if wd40 to the door lock mechanism. This should, in theory, prevent the same happening again. The lock should still be ok. Refit everything you have stripped and that should be it.! Believe it or not, if you know exactly where this deadlock lever is behind the covering, it's possible to do the same job without removing the plastic covering simply by cutting through the cover with a Stanley knife which will also move the deadlock lever. It's a real pain but the alternative is to completely butcher the lock until it eventually gives in and opens which takes ages and you risk damaging the door. Good luck and let me know how it goes.!
