I had the led lenser x21, in my hands today, in duffy's in galway "WOW"
Me thinks the end is near for the battery packs, and traditional lamps.
Has any of you seen or used them yet?

not until they develop good rechargeable batteries that willl last the night and not damage the lamp of effect the beam.

i dont think these will ever replace the big lamps either until they throw a wider beam.
its very easy to miss something with the narrow beam from the p7 when given a quick lamp to a field

i have an x21 yes it is the end of wires and batteries it's got a beam as good as any lamp i have used have had it since christmas used it a lot and its on its second set of batteries it takes 4 d cells it is a serious light i have that and a p7 it's all i use now god bless the led

    Lumapower Sidekick Ultra III Turbo

    http://www.heinnie.com/product.asp?strParents=&CAT_ID=0&P_ID=6287

Same lumens as X21 but less than half the size, about half the price and you can get rechargeable LiIon batteries and charger for £35 :D

You could easily scope mount this one:cool:

landkeeper how long do you get out of the batterys in the x21?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 92 ✭✭mack_

I bought the x21 6 weeks ago. good light out of it, but not a very tight spot. hard to hold rabbitts with it. also very awkward to handle.find myself still using the blitz and battery pack.

i bought it just before christmas it came with led's own brand batteries i used those for about a month, then when they started to fade i just bought duracell they have been in it since it's got quite a lot of use and it's still bright enough to see something at a good distance
i just use it for scanning then when i have a fox on his way to me i switch to the p7 it has two setting which is also usefull
works for me might not for others , i lamp on my own so not having wires and batteries is a god send , maybe if your a team a lamp and battery is a better option
the beam is tight enough for what i want you do realise you can adjust it don't you mine was very tight to slide in and out when i got it first

I was out with a scope mounted LF170 last night and it was torture

I think I will get the X21 to complement the P7 as I lamp alone a lot too.

    Hate wires ans cumbersomeness

The LF is fantastic IF you have a lamp man, especially with red and amber filters

Last time I was out with Paulo and Dev we used the LF extensively for searching

    Totally agree Tack
I blame the LF 170 for knocking of my zero once as well. The lamp and wire get caught on everything

    I can't get a lamp man though.
I was out tonight for a quick scout around

I put the P7 on the .223 for the first time.
It actually works better than the LF170 on a scope.

I had the amber filter on the LF tonight. I am not a great fan of the red as it is too difficult to make out what the animal you are looking at is.

The X21 is next on my list to get (when ever I get my act together, shillin's tight this week:o)

I was going to get the x21 aswell , but after having a lend of one and testing it out it proved heavy very cumbersome to use compared to my LF140, as its 1.5 kilo and 15.5" long.

I have bought in the last year
    LF 170 hand held
    LF 170 scope mounted
Ucaller 170 mounted on the van
Deben 12v 18am double battery pack
    & the p7
I have two very willing lamp men at the weekends
But I am on my own all week. I have to sell 2 of the
Above before I can justify an x21

Check out the Olight and wolfeyes selection too. Led Lenser are not the only decent led light out there. I like the sound of the 2200 Lumen Olight Intimidator. Rechargebale too and a spare battery can be got which would be the dogs. http://www.flashaholics.co.uk/olight.html

SO after all the bullsh!te about the P7 being the best out on the market, everyone must get one (sarcastic tone of voice here), YOU HAVE ONLY NOW put it on a scope to see what it goes like.

Can you please explain HOW the P7 can "works better than a LF170", that P7 is nowhere near the power of a LF170. Or did you still have the dark sunglasses on at nighttime to do the test.

The way I see it that P7 is good to 150y, 200y max where-as the LF 170 will still give a good view out to 400y.

    Clive Old boy
    Firstly Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig
Secondly, I've had the P7 on the .308 for the past number of months.
I had no .223 for a few weeks while I had a new barrel commissioned
    151937.jpg

The LF was never great on the .223 as the scope starts at 8x. The lightforce used to live on a 6.5x55 prior to I owning the .223.
It works well with the P7 BECAUSE it has a narrow beam which matches the 8x magnification

The P7 works better Because it can be used easily on targets out to 170ish yards which is the normal operation distance of a lamper.

Very few shoot out past 200 yards at night, that is what a caller is for as I am sure you are well aware.

If you READ my posts you would know I have been using the P7 exclusively on a .308 rifle since 21th of December or so.
    151936.jpg

If I have help I bring the Light-force for scanning.

However I will get and X21, as the LF170 battery pack I find too heavy for long marches through heavy undergrowth at night.

I am not a novelist, my posts are generally only a few lines. Generally!!

I still maintain after using LF170,P7, my Da's P5 my P4, my handheld Search lamp, my DIY handheld lamp and Motorcycle battery and all my other lamps................

That for Value for Money, Functionality and quality of construction the P7 wins as it is an overall winner, not excelling in any category except stature

I rated all lamps on their merits, and I chose the P7; and this advise first time lampers to purchase it.

Is that clear enough for you?

I know they are a bit more expensive and in these times money is hard come by many including myself. But the wolfeyes shark has twice the lumens of the x21 for an extra 50 euro. Think I'd be a willing to go that extra little bit:D

Did you look at the Wolfeyes Night Hunter "only" 450 lumens but can focus down to a 4 degree beam. I think it's great value at about £65 - well worth getting to try anyway which is what I'm going to do.

I find the problem with torches is what I would term the "light spill" around the edges of the beam as they are mostly designed for uses other than hunting. The focusable torches such as the Led Lensers eliminate this to some extent but don't have the tight beam that you get from a Lightforce. The Lumapower I mentioned in an earlier post has a fairly tight beam and can put light out to around 500 yards and will illuminate an animal at 300 yards in a misty night but suffers from this "light spill" also.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭landkeeper

well in my experience a bit of light spill as you call it is invaluble when your lamping on your own;) fine if your lamp man has the lighforce narrowed down to the last he can hold it rock steady on your target before during and after the shot
it's a totally different scenario if your on your own, a tight spot is great BUT and here is the but , recoil takes you off target and its very hard to watch whats going on with a tight spot a bit more beam gives much greater room for error i have found

Yeah I seen that also. Twice the lumens of the P7 which I have and use pretty often. Should be a nice tidy gun light;)

    How to post a photo.

If I were buying a torch, and I'm still fairly underwhelmed by them for my needs, I would visit candlepowerforum and also google for user reviews. When possible, learn by other peoples mistakes.

I've ditched the pressure switch as I think it is easier operate without it though.

Could do with more replies on how to call foxs. The lenser might prove to last longer and all you use is 4 aaa betteries. That wolf light only lasts 2 hours and you need special camera batteries.Barn owl is better than nothing.

At least you got some result, if only a barn owl, I remember using a mouth call a while back, had a pain in my face and my h**e from blowing, I lured in 6 bullocks and a horse:):):):), you live and learn
