Product Placement

There was an article in the Sunday Times saying BAI have approved product placement on Irish TV and that it was under pressure to do so from RTE and TV3. This decision was approved by Carrey, along with the appointment of one of Biffo's mates to the board of An Post.

Surely not ... why would they want product placement? The Apprentice, sponsored by Cadbury's, designed a new bar that had to represent the brand, their brand. The gardening programme on RTE, sponsored by Woodies, insisted that the contestants use lots of their products in the garden.

It turns a lot of programmes into informertials - not what I want, and, I suspect, a lot of other viewers want either. Why would anyone want this? Surely the advertisers should pay for the adverts in the ad break? I know it used to be said that the advertisements were better made than the programmes, but surely we do not want non-stop adverts.

We have already had the instance where Bank of Scotland sponsored Vincent Brown's show and censored any discussion about the BoS pull out of Ireland.

Hopefully this decision will not be ratified by our new minister.

Sorry about that. I thought I had posted those views before, but had not found the post.

It still stinks of Ray Burke!
