The am and long wave work fine. Have checked the connection points in the roof and back of radio and changed the aerial whip but nada.
It has worked once when up in certain parts of dublins southside up high. (the car, not me :D)
Possible causes? Its a factory fitted Head unit that needs facias and hazard switches to convert so a simple fix is the most desirable outcome before I think of stripping it out and replacing it. As a note its never worked in the past few years (except of course up high) but the cd changer has packed in and longwave radio has some funny crap that ain't my type of funny.

Possible solution? Any car radio experts on here/?

Sounds like you have a Nissan rad/cassette unit. If I am right then the tuner module will need to be replaced.

Pull out stereo and check aerial connection in the back. Check connection in other end (antennae).

Duran, if the model no. written on top lid of your radio/cd is PU 2471 or numbers close to this then the tuner inside your radio needs to be replaced.
My full time job is the repair and decode of car audio systems so I know that my diagnosis of your fault is correct.

If the car is a Jap import, the FM spectrum used in Japan is different to here. In Europe, we use 87.5-108Mhz, whereas in Japan, they use 76-90Mhz. The implications of this is that Jap radios will only receive stations that broadcast beween 87.5-90, which in this country is usually RTE radio one.

Thanks very much for responding. How can I access the lid? Is there an easy way to pop out the stereo? Thanks again.

Ask your mechanic to remove the radio or buy special set of U clips in any motor factor shop for a couple of euro.

In most cases with this model stereo the cause of poor reception is the areial.
I have not found any of these radios to have a fault. After replacing the complete aerial the problem was solved.

Thanks for the info, do I need to replace the wiring all the way back to the radio
Or just the aerial part that screws in?

You will need to replace the full length of cable. Advice first is to try your radio in another car or on a workbench so as to be certain as to where fault lies

Not Dublin based. This is a VERY expensive repair so my advice is to source a replacement in a scrap yard ---approx 50 euro. It will have to be vin coded to suit your car. You can get back to me again if you decide to go this route.
