Housing List

Just a quick question-I've been on housing list for years now and receiving OPF and Rent Allowance. Me & OH are joint applicants for a council house as we want to live together and have recently received a load of forms to fill in with up-to-date info which indicates they may be close to offering us something.

He works and we both have to fill out an income form which I get in his case. But I'm wondering why I need to fill out all details of my income from SW and get it signed and stamped and the whole lot when I will automatically lose everything once we move in together anyway and so will not have that as income at all - it's all a bit irrelevant then isn't it??

And for that matter,I know I will lose my OPF once we are living together but does anyone know if I will then be entitled to anything else? Will he be expected to support me and my child completely even though we are not married and the child is not his? And he makes barely enough to support himself?? This seems unfair and I would like an income of my own so I'm not totally dependant on him but do not want to leave my child with anyone. Does anyone know if I would be entitled to any help?
    Thanks a lot.

Is it not the three year review of everyone on the housing list? They are looking for your current income, not some future income.

edit: How can you be getting Opfp if your partner is in the picture ??

    Because they don't live together.

OP, when you move in together, you will lose your one parent family straight away. Your partner can claim Family Income Supplement for you all as a family unit if his income is under the limit and he works at least 19 hours per week (see www.welfare.ie).
You can also claim Jobseeker's Allowance if you are looking for work.

married/co-habiting tis all the same to SW. as already pointed out if your OH is working more than 19 hours per week or 38 per fortnight and paid less than 506euro per week and the job is expected to last at least 3 months, than he will qualify for FIS.also if you marry he will get the married tax credit which means more money in his wage packet!the fact that the child is not his is of no interest to SW.you will have to get your head around the fact that you are now a family unit supporting one another , with additional support from SW. having your own "income" from SW does not make you financially independent. it just means you are dependent on SW.

Jobseeker's Allowance is a means tested payment, so whatever your partner earns will be assessed as means from your payment - but you will get a family rate - you will claim for yourself, him, and your child, and your means will be deducted from this.
If you are living together, it doesn't matter if you are married or not, you are seen as a family unit.

They're not living together and the OP's partner is not her childs father.

OP you can find out all the answers to your questions down the social welfare office when the time comes. I'd advise you to stay away from boards.ie for this sort of advice because a lot of what you'll read will be personal abuse.

Down here in west cork we have to fill out those forms every year for rent calculation so fingers crossed. If you 2 get a place get another set of forms and fill them out showing your change of circumstances, the rent will be adjusted to your new income.(rent is aprox 14% of income in the county)

sorry to hijack the thread OP but i just wanted to ask a few questions on a similar topic without starting a new thread,
was there any problems with the joint application on the housing list when you were claiming OPFP? like did you have any problems with SW on the issue? I was hoping to apply but was worried that id need to sign off OPFP in order to apply jointly, even though we're not currently living together, if that makes sense? i assumed that if claiming OPFP you could only claim as a One Parent Family.

Also, if we were to be accepted on the housing list would we then be entitled to rent supplement? or would we need to be claiming a SW payment as well? if so,would FIS be regarded as a SW payment?

    Thanks

I can only help you with the second portion of your qoestion. You will not be entitled to rent allowance if you get a council house. That is because the rent is set by the council at a much lower level than if you were renting privately. A lot of councils are different but in round figures you should expect to pay not more than 15 to 20% of your income in rent, assuming that you income is from welfare. Some councils do increase the rent if one partner is working.

thank you for the reply but i actually meant in the mean time; like while being on the list. entitlement to rent supplement states that you need to be on the housing list and/or in receipt of a SW payment depending on your CWO. if applying for RS on the basis of being on OPFP then obviously it'd only be for myself as a OPF, to come off the OPFP id need to be entitled to RS but as im not on the SW payment anymore i wouldnt be entitled, if that makes sense.
