So I might be switching form starting strength to 5x5 in the next few weeks and was just wondering if when you switch you could keep progressing up on the weights you're lifting at the moment or reset to any degree?

Which 5x5 are you switching to and why?

If you are struggling with 3X5 on your current program you might have to drop back 5-10%, depending on exercise. best way to find out is to just do 5X5 on your lifts now and see - i'm basing this on the assumption you are switching to Stronglifts 5X5.

Also as asked above how come you are making the switch?

Not switching yet I was just reading up on it and the question came to me. I don't think I'll be switching for a while just will think I'll need something new in a bit. I do like the simple layout of starting strength and that's why 5x5 interests me aswell.

    Fair enough.

I do need to ask again, which 5x5 interests you? Stronglifts is not the only one out there, nor is it the original or best one.

I don't know which program is the best to be honest, I've only ever done starting strength and Bill Starrs intermediate 5x5.

However, Stronglifts and Starting Strength are both beginner programs so switching from one to the other doesn't make any sense.

So it goes back to why you want to change.

Ah ok was just something I was looking into. Didn't realise it was a beginners one tbh. You just always see people recommending it here so thought maybe I'd move onto it in time. Guess I'll look around for intermediate ones.

How'd you find Bill Stars one and did you just move on when all your lifts started stalling quite frequently?

I have been following your log and you are progressing well.

    maybe you are getting bored?

I dont see the need to change from Starting Strength to Stronglifts, might as well keep on progressing on Starting Strength until you move on to a more Intermediate program.

Yeah I think part of it is boredom and another part is that my weights are starting to hit numbers I'd never got before and I don't have a training partner so am getting nervous under the bar. Second part is easy enough to fix by just asking someone there to spot me.

I think it's a mental thing that I can't see myself maintaining my progression long because of the numbers I'm starting to hit now aswell. I seem to be going on about state of mind alot on this board these days

Dude, SS and Stronglifts are for the most part, the same thing.

What you are saying here is you are a bit bored and feeling a bit nervous under the bar, so you are going to do the same thing, but more of it.

Yeah I hadn't looked into the 5x5 too much when I posted this. Won't be switching to it anyway. I'll find something new to do in a month or 2 I think. I want to get as much as I can out of SS first.

Can't wait to get back to the gym it's been like 5 days now. Damn life stuff getting in the way of consistency!
