I am looking at buying a 2006 A6. Its has no NCT disc but not overly concerned as dealer offering 1 year warranty and 1 year free AA membership.
He is SIMI registered said it didnt have an NCT disc when it came in. How do I find out when the NCT was up or even if it is ? Thanks

As far as I know he cannot sell the car without an NCT. There isn't an expired disc in the windscreen or a cert in the glove box??

ring up NCTS and ask them

It was due it's first NCT in 2010 as a four year old car, the fact that the previous owner didn't submit it for the test (or he did but it failed) should tell you something.

As far as I'd be concerned, if someone has a four or five year old car and gets rid of it without an NCT then they're either an idiot or there's something seriously wrong with the car. If the car is ok then you submit it for an NCT and sell it with a current NCT disc which enhances it's value. If it is way overdue which this car is then you as the prospective buyer have to ask yourself why?

This is a bugbear of mine but I'll repeat it here anyway - tell the garage to submit the car for the NCT and to call you when it's passed, otherwise run a mile.

The date of first registration will be on the current Vehicle Registration Cert which the dealer should have. It would have been due it's first NCT on the forth anniversary of that date.

He said in the original post that it's a 2006 so it was due it's first NCT last year, the exact date isn't really an issue, it's way overdue.

i'd be fine with it, as you said, the dealer sounds legitimate, it doesn't sound like he's trading out of a portakabin.

i was in a similar sitiuation a few years ago, i bought the car and the dealer arranged an N.C.T. date, i paid for the test fee under the agreement that if the car failed the dealer would look after it.

my car passed. later on in the year a wheel bearing went and the dealer replaced it the same day too.

if he's SIMI registered, offering a years warranty and AA membership he clearly has confidence in the cars condition.

Thanks for replies. I have been onto the NCT centre and they just need the chasis number and they will advise me when the test is due. The dealer has said he will stand over any issues if it fails but am confident enough it should be ok. Will let ye know how I get on

get it in writing, along with the warranty.

On most VAG cars it's on the outside of the car at the bottom of the front windscreen on the passenger side it's etched in to black plastic.
