I would just like to thank people for the general support and kindness on boards. I have read a lot of threads finding it hard to read at times because it hit so close to home. It is truly sad time for people, what a terrible tragedy that has happened in Japan.

It makes me proud to be Irish to see people be so kind.

The reason I am writing this is because for last few days I have such mixed feelings.
My wife who is Japanese wanted to see her mom and family so bad. She went to Japan on Saturday 5th before this tragedy on Friday occurred.

My heart nearly stopped when found out full extent of the tragedy and couldn't get through to her by phone. There was so much hype on the news about it. Saying phone lines where cut, fires you name it. But after many hours I finely got through to her.
She was so calm about it. That's my wife the calm one! She was safe!
She was in a supermarket at time of the earthquake. But wasn't hurt.
I said how lucky you are. I would of freaked out personally.

Still find it hard to contact her because of power cuts. But she safe and sends me the the odd email with updates. Very scary stuff!

Anyway lets keep this thread supportive for people in Japan and for the families and friends who miss them so much.

Im glad your wife is ok and I hope for her safe return.

I have to say, Japan seems well switched on in terms of dealing with this situation! Fair play!!

I'm glad to hear your wife is ok. I've never been to Japan but have great respect for the country and its people. I really wish the Japanese the very best and want to give my heartfelt condolences to those who have lost a friend/family member/loved one in this tragedy.

the only thing not happening in Japan to be honest is widespread panic. They are really a calm bunch for all that is going on.

    Thank you benwavner

Someones going to get a jump in profile views.

Is there anything people can do here, apart from donating money or flying out to aid the cleanup. I'm unemployed so can't donate a lot but what I do have is a lot of time. Any ideas?

Have great respect for the Japanese, brilliant electronics, reliable cars (although poorly styled)! They as a nation have come on in leaps in bounds and if you are a technology nerd then it is like a Mecca for you!

Friends of mine were over for the 2002 World Cup and gave them rave reviews so we stand with the Japanese in their moment of darkness.

I think majority of people who have been to Japan loved it. Its wonderful country. With all problems now it's going to have huge impact around the world.

Was annoyed at some people in other threads. Saying whats the big deal!!
People are forgetting they are humans. They have family and friends like I do. So do many people in this country. There is also a lot of Irish living and working there.
