Rules of the Road - 30kph LED Signs

I've come across some newly erected 30kph LED signs near schools
    Previously these areas were 50kph

These signs only seem to be turned on during school hours

My question is: without an end of speed limit sign, or another 50kph sign soon after,.. when does the 30kph limit end ??

I'd say logically after the school zone.

Legally? Who knows... Are the LED signs even legal?

That being said, those in the school zones should be well enforced. You should see the speeds some nutters drive past my daughters school when there are kids running all over the place.

That's my point,.. it is in one of the enforcement areas (Long Mile Road), which goes from 60 to 50,.. and now to 30kph

It's hard to slow to 30kph, without taking your eye off the road to monitor the speedo,.. too many areas like this with speed limits changing so often are making the roads more dangerous,.. not safer

Another 8 km stretch of road (Naas to Kilcullen) goes from 30 to 60 to 50 to 80 to 60 back to 80kph,.. okay I'm going off my point now I guess

I do that one often and it is a pain in the arse.

Special speed limits and the LED sign are very much legal.
    http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/2005/en/si/0756.html

The speed limit can be 30, 50,60, 80, 100 or 120km/h depending on the circumstances.

The special speed limit would extend to where the next speed limit sign is.

It's possible I may have missed the next speed limit sign,.. although I do try to take in as many signs as I can,.. will keep an eye for it next time I pass,.. thanks

Well it's also possible they haven't put one up yet at the end of the zone. Things often get done half-ar$ed where signage is concerned.
