It says it on the website that the stock is inletted and finished to suit the "factory housing". This means they have taken a Marlin action, probably one of the more popular ones, and built all their stocks around this action.

If another Marlin action is going to be dropped into the stock then depending on how closely your action matches the factory action some or no altering will be necessary. The website also says that this altering can be done by a novice, but if unsure consult a gunsmith. In this case i would be more inclined to visit one of the rifle stock manufacturers here rather than a gunsmith. Enda Walsh of www.gunstocksireland.com or Edi Graef of PSE - Composites would/should be able to help you.

To be honest and without trying to insult you the best people to ask would be Boyds themselves. Drop them an e-mail and ask what action the stocks are designed for. Then order accordingly.

I've a Boyds thumbhole stock on my .223, came as standard. Looks really well and it's comfortable too. Needs an adjustable cheek piece IMO, but I wouldn't change it, good and stiff as well.

They are seriously good value. I wish I could find the equivalent for a Steyr prohunter
