Small Light Commercial

Thinking of getting a light commercial 02-04 (Caddy, Inca, Partner etc.). Last week I spent around €90 on petrol in my 00 Focus 1.6 petrol. It's actually quite economical, but I'm doing high mileage and obviously the price of fuel at present.

I reckon if I spent €2k on a small van it wouldn't be long before it pays for itself on fuel and I can keep my Focus for personal use, as well as keeping the mileage down and keeping it clean. It never gives me trouble and has 130k on the clock. I'd just hate to depart with it.

I'm just finding it hard to get mpg figures for the vans in question. Like, am I going save much on fuel with an 02 1.9D Caddy for instance? The modern diesels really are superb on fuel, but not so sure about a 9 year old one and the diesel engines from that era. Also, are the Caddy/Incas as bad as all VW's from that era?

There seems to be a few bargains on there at the moment due to businesses going bust, so it just a matter of finding a nice tidy one.

So if anyone could recommend me the most economical and reliable van.

    Thanks.

Can you tax a commercial Ollie for the €288 pa, or will you have to do it privately?

    It's someething to consider.

My choice is the Transit Connect - cheap spares, reliable, goes on the smiff etc.

I'm pretty sure I can tax it as a commercial as I'll be using it for work only. I have to look into it a bit more though. Cheers.

The Transit Connect would also be my first choice but not sure if I could pick one up for around €2k? They seem to be a bit dearer than Caddys, Incas etc.

You can only tax a van at the commercial rate if you have a VAT no or Business reg no.

Re; and they start from 2k alright...
