Hi all. I've been teaching in a secondary school for the last five years and have never been involved in a Dept inspection.. until now that is! :-) It was just announced yesterday that we will have a WSE in three weeks time. Have anyone any advice? I have schemes of work but they are very verybrief.. What detail is required and do I need to have a lesson plan for class? I pick up copies and comment etc on a regular basis so that shouldn't be a problem. Aslo my teaching Diary - do I need to fill in all h/w here?

I've moved your post to its own thread as you posted in the introduction thread. You'll get more answers here.

Have a look at this website, you should find it useful.

    http://www.sdpi.ie/subject_planning.html

In particular look at the section about fourth panel down called 'Subject Profile Template'. Download it and fill it in. This is what we have been using in my school for Subject Department Plans for the last few years. We had a science inspection in November and this was fine.

I wasn't asked for a lesson plan for the class, I did have my roll book up to date though and had it on the day in case I was asked for it.

If you are the only teacher of your subject you're on your own filling it in, if there's more than one teacher, you should get some time from the principal to have a department meeting and do some work on it.

Has it been confirmed which subjects will be examined under the WSE?

Hi, No didn't get any confirmation as regards subjects yet.. Thanks for those links.. I will definitely check them out.

Do I need to provide copies of all handouts/powerpoints/tests given since Sept or am I getting too carried away..

It's a good idea to have a resources section in your department file but don't worry about having everything in there.

No you don't. They'll only be in with you for one class. And if it's not your subject you won't see them at all. They inspected four subjects when we had our WSE and for the rest of us life went on as normal, we didn't have to do anything for it.

They are very fond of banks of resources, particularly for data projectors, if you have them in your school. They also like the idea of teachers from the one department sitting in on each other's classes occasionally to learn different approaches.

Have they not changed the format of the WSE now or is the new version still just being piloted? Or principal told us with the new WSE they can come to any classes, any subjects.
