On reading the Irish Times yesterday I came across this article . Down near the end a Mr Micheal McEntee makes some very disturbing comments in regards Management and Union levels. Is this what the most HR managers are thinking? Mods feel free to move this to the correct forum.

I am a regional union representative with two sick days since 1999.

There are 18 staff in the Human Resources department of my company. Just one is a union member.

“On the management side we have a proliferation of . . . people who are coming in as consultants and saying to the board: ‘All you have to do is call these guys in, put the gun to their head and you will get everything you need.’ End of story and who cares a toss about all the dead bodies.

“On the other side of the coin you have a large cohort of shop stewards who have never negotiated and who, in a lot of cases, have become shop stewards for reasons more to do with their own sick leave – wrap the red flag around me and by the way do not question my sick leave.

I dont think my position is in anyway related to what the articale is about. Im just pointing it out as to the "Tone" of his comments.

I think the person has pointed to two positions a company has come across.

I think your position (as in your opinion/where you stand on it) is relevant, you have some opinion on it overall or you wouldn't have posted?

He's being descriptive of opinions he's come across. It's a common tool used for summing up opinions - catchy soundbites meant to be remembered.

Presenting both sides of the story. What's the problem?
