Drunken arrest - Northern Irish

    Hi folks

The following is a hypothetical situation and no legal advice is sought.

What position would one be in [person from Northern Ireland] if they got arrested down south under section 4 for being drunk, held overnight, paid small amount of bail and given a court date?

No incident apart from being intoxicated and a risk to themselves.

Just wondering what the permutations are in this situation, if it ever happened?

Would most northerners not show up etc?

The garda may have stated they will just push for a caution as no other offences.

A judge will generally convict you in your absence in this case if you don't show up. there is no custodial sentence for this offence so its even more summary in its nature than most road traffic offences. not a big deal at all.

Your first post, about a person from the North getting arrested in the South, your name is belfast28.

    "Hypothetical" indeed.
