Discovery Channel Demographic

It's not an over exaggeration when I say that most nights from 11pm - 3am the majority of advertisements on SKY and Discovery Channel's shows are geared solely at women, why?

I'm male, 28 years old, and without trying to be at risk of sounding sexist I just can't understand why on earth they roll-out these ads on the back of the likes of any of the Discovery Turbo shows or military and history shows...it's just odd to be watching for example Twist The Throttle and then to be shown an add to buy makeup or Tampax:(

Whats going on? Surely in this day and age Sky could put systems in place that advertise to each and every niche based on the content of the shows...I realise that re-runs may not hold as great an advertising value so maybe any add is shown at any time outside of peak viewing time, but with the introduction of the recording facility on SKY+ a good portion of my viewing may be done on a recording from an off peak time.

Or maybe more women watch these shows than I thought???

Yep - They have deffo got their demographics wrong.
I would assume that anyone that is interested in the working of a triple expansion steam engine is probably not interested in volumnising their eye lashes.

...so we all need to watch adds in order for the TV world to go around.

I don't watch any adds on TV, I like to pause the show for fifteen minutes and then start watching fast-forwarding through the bull ****e geared tword the masses, or if I can't I simply mute the TV and make a cuppa.

The only way to get me to watch an add is to show me something I like or am interested in. I cannot understand why on earth SKY can't advertise to individual customer niche's based on the content on their SKY+ boxes...I suppose what I'm trying to point too is something similar to Google's advertising structure and having the ability to control much much more of the content I am shown on the SKY+ box, ie. having the ability to create user profiles and such.

+++Next I suspect the hoards of nut-jobs will be screaming of how their lives will be ruined as their "personal data" accessed by "the man" and how violated they feel by just about any sort of social networking - I say to you grow up.
