Just joined the ranks of 4x4 drivers today:D:D:. I may be mad with the price of diesel at the moment. I bought a D-max crewcab 3.0L, September 06. 97000km on the clock, full canopy on the back. Going from a car she felt a little wavy on the road but I am well happy with my purchase. Now all I need is the EB licence and I can pull cows around the country in safety and comfort. BTW does anybody know where I could swap the canopy for one of those aluminium roller shutters as it would suit my needs better?

Try westend motors in mullingar or towing equipment in dublin.

Monasterevin motors may do some sort of deal with your old canopy

Welcome to the world of expensive motoring superiority, worth it when it snows though!

Shouldn't have any problem selling the canopy gong by past posts loooking for them.

Take a fools advice and leave the canopy on the jeep, its almost certainly bolted to the load area meaning there will be holes(around 8) that the new apparatus you fit mightnt hide/cover,also the canopy has most likely been wired into the main loom of the jeep to allow for the rear brake light and interior light to work, you will have to de-wire it correctly or fuses will be blowing every Day.

Those little things are easy to get around but the main reason not to go away from the canopy is that the vast majority of the flat covers, alluminium or plastic that are on the market are very troublesome with lots of moving parts that are prone to breaking and worse again are very hard to source afterwards, these lids are being imported cheaply as kits and nobody is interested in supplying parts for them meaning you'll end up soldiering on with a lid that wont lock/wont slide across the whole way etc, also the roller type lids let an awful lot of water through, nowhere near waterproof which mightnt suit depending on what your carrying.Stick with the canopy and bring a small trailer for the more awkward load, you'll have a far easier life.

Best of luck with the DMax,ive sold dozens of them in my time, they give next to no trouble at all, drive her easy and the diesel bills wont be too bad.

Edit, when the roads are roads are wet use 4WD,keep her in under you.

Have you come across any trouble with clutches link? I believe they have a dual mass flywheel, I will be towing an IW 12foot cow box about twenty to thirty times a year, will it be able for this.

This machine will NOT be used as a car or leisure vehicle. Half tonne Bags of meal etc will be going in the bed of her so a load liner and no cover or even a tarpaulin may suit me better. On top of this I hate the look of the canopy on her. Any advice on where to purchase any of these or do you sell them yourself? If you do please send me a pm with details.

You should be able to sell the canopy handy eneogh on Donedeal, around €600 would be a fair price id say, judging by what yer going to use the jeep for most of those flat lids wont suit you either id imagine an open back is the way to go, a plastic liner will cost around €350,they are easy got from any Isuzu dealer.

These machines arent giving any clutch trouble at all,we've done an odd one but its not a major issue like the Nissan Navara or anything, you will be fine pulling boxes on and off dont be worrying about it,use the 4WD when its wet or icy and when yer towing, its safer by far,the leaf springs and rear wheel drive make the jeep a dangerous proposition in certain circumstances, its important to remember this, that goes for most crewcabs.

Aren't they usually held on with clamps and tape?

    Sorry horsebox,

after a lot of haggling I paid €7350 on a private sale. She is an LS spec. She was an ex-demo in Simon Kavanagh's in Enniscorthy before the guy I bought her off had her.

It has one or 2 dents, only small though. She is in test until September. she was advertised at €8500 by a guy emigrating and like I said after a lot of haggling I got her for €7350. I looked at three others all around the same age/mileage and the closest on price was €9k so I do think she was good value. If I can get €600 for the canopy she will be exceptional value for me as I should get close on ten years from her.

    Hi Juniorhurler

Just wondered how you got on since with the DMAX.

Having shopped around recently myself and done some haggling she sounds like great value.

I'll have the 12ft IW on it as well. Is she going ok in front of it?

I find that she is averaging 33mpg without towing. I'm not sure what she does when towing. I find that she is well able for the box. I had her out with five suckler cows of about 650kg a piece the other day and she had no problems on a back road with loads of accellerating/braking and hills. She is giving no trouble either. I find her a good workhorse, but that is what I use her as, the wife has a car that is used for SD&P driving.
