I might need a lot more practice if I want to do this again :P Got dropped off the back after 1 lap the last time.

I assume these are open races, am I correct? Not much info on Naas CC site yet.

How many laps of which Mondello circuit do they do (there are at least 3 circuit configurations) and how long are the races? (i'm an A4).

It's amazing Mondello is not used for more cycling really, closed, safe roads, decent surface etc.

Not 100% sure on this but I think the race is 1 hour + 3 laps and its the full track which is about 3.5km from what I remember of last year.

So your possibly looking at about 15 laps if its a fast paced race.

    Weather Permitting!!!

So no race if it's wet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54 ✭✭thekidd147

Exactly, it will be too dangerous if its wet...

I'm really looking forward to this one - it will be a nice blow out session before the RAS.

If it is raining a lot, I probably would not have gone. Fingers crossed for a dry still evening.

So no race if it's wet?

Apparently quite a bit of oil/lubricant/rubber can gather on race tracks which can get real slippy when wet.
Fingers crossed it goes ahead. It was great to race on closed roads on a circuit that was mildly technical with left and right hand turns of different speeds.

    Looking good for this evening...

Is there anyone from the Dundrum area that could give me a lift back after the race? I can get over fine but returning is a bit trickier

Could anyone give me some tips on how to drive down there today from the city center? I've never really driven in Dublin and now there's the queen combined with rush hour traffic making it worse. Google maps says I should use the N4/M4 but the N4 is closed?

How much time should I plan to get down there?

Or is the race even happening with the current drizzle?:)

Good video, really enjoyed that race. Thanks to all involved.

Actually, that should be "enjoyed". That was tough, and I was glad to hold on to the bunches when they caught up. I have ~1hr 15 and ~40kmph. The heart rate graph isn't quite as level as the hill climb one, but it was certainly no resting.

Hope to make it to the next one.

+1. Great fun. Surprised there wasn't more out actually. Can't wait for the next one.

You're really racking up the results! Leave something for the rest of us ;) Would have liked to have raced it but was cheering on the Women's crit. Will make the next one

    Yup, that's what I thought.

    Well done Tawfeeredux, great result!

Impressive ride from tawfeeredux. A minority of the A3 were working hard to catch A4 and stay away form A1/2. Mr T was doing big pulls on the front. When we caught the 4s and the 1/2s came up he jumped off the front  with Ryan and was unlucky to be passed after he unleashed his fearsome sprint out of the bend. Chappeau!

Great event - thanks due to Naas CC. Hopefully the next outing will get a bigger turnout (of riders willing to do a turn :D).

I need a leadout man, you wanna volunteer?

I need a leadout man, you wanna volunteer?

I'll do it. Lead out from 500 to 150 m. One condition. You have to lead me out from the start line to 500 m from the finish. And every time you drop me you have to come back and get me :D

Has anyone any stats they can post up, distance average speed etc.

Not precise as I wiped them since, but I had 50k @ 40kph, for 1 hour 15 mins, same as Idleater posted. That was in A4.

I thought A4 weren't supposed to race with the A123?

I see this series is starting back in Mondello on 30th April.
I'd love to do it this year but don't have a competition licence yet. Do I definitely need at least an A4 licence?

Also so far I have been cycling about 100km at an average of 28km per hour. Would doing this race of approx. 1hr 15mins at 40km/h be too difficult?

Any info. would be great. Thank you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,992 ✭✭✭Plastik

You'll need a full A4 competition licence. Mondello is a tough place to race. Very open to any wind, constant acceleration out of the corners and the A3/A2/A1 bunch chasing behind. Tougher than many A4 open races.

Thanks for the reply. Mondello sounds hard so. I'll leave out the A4 races for this year I think! Still a bit new to it all.
