Not sure if this will help now, but thought I'd give you my opinion on the MA course.

I just got my Final Results a few days ago having handed in my Thesis in September last after two years of Part-time study. I found the MA really interesting overall, there was one or two modules which I would not have wanted to do and found these somewhat boring. I would like to point out that not everyone will like every module in a particular course so this is no different to any other course provided by any other Institution.

I found the Youth Justice and Cultural Diversity Modules the most interesting overall.

I would advise anyone who is thinking of taking this course Part-time to take both the Option Modules in the First Year. This allows you more time to devote to your Dissertation in Second Year. You have more work to do in the First Year, but this is balanced out with the work you will be doing on your Dissertation.

With regard your Dissertation: You will start this in the Second Semester (Second Semester of Second Year if Part-time). Check in the Library to see what previous Students have done before and it might give you an idea of a topic of interest. You will meet with your Supervisor in late-January or early-February and it is at this point you will discuss the approach to research topic, etc. It is at this point you should arrange how, and when, meeting will take place. For myself, it was a very loose arrangement whereby I only met my Supervisor three times during the whole process... I know other in my class who met their Supervisors every two weeks or so. It is totally up to you and your Supervisor.

    With regard to the College:
As far as I am aware the course still runs over Tuesday and Thursday evenings (approx 2-4 each evening depending on the Modules taken). The SU Shop openned until 5pm from memory, but this may have changed. I ended up bringing in some snack for myself as you could never be too sure.

    Job Prospects:
I can't really profess to know anything in this regard. I am still employed in the job that I was in before I started the course.

Overall, I really enjoyed the course and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the areas of Family, Child or Community. It gives the student a broad knowledge of each area with the opportunity to specialise (in the Dissertation). I would recommend the course to people from a Social Care, Psychology, Teaching, Judicial, etc background. Please bear in mind that this is purely an Academic Qualification. If you are interested in Social Work then please do a Masters in Social Work instead.
