Santa Fe Timing Belt Replacement

    It's time I change the timing belt on my 06 2.2 Diesel Santa Fe. Not looking forward to it, but after qualifying as a mechanic, and despite leaving that life behind me 14 years ago, it would be criminal to ask someone (and pay) to do the job for me.

    Is there anything I should watch out for?

    Well my extremely limited knowledge would tell ya to get it done soon, cause if it goes you're f**ked, as you probably already know. But the issue seems to be that you've been so long out of this area that you don't seem confident to do it urself and if you're not, just let a garage do it. I got mine done (including pump etc) for €350 which seems reasonable. I suppose the question is, is mechanics like riding a bike...?

    those belts are handy enough done, should be around 3 hours work in it, both tensioner and idler are supposed to be changed with every belt.

    Access is very tight at the belt; if you undo the exhaust downpipe, engine and gearbox mounts, you'll be able to use a large trolley jack to shift the engine and box a few inches to make access easier.

    Apart from this, they're pretty straightforward.

    Thanks a lot for the replies. Looks like very little access alright. I'll do as you suggest, Captain. I was just worried about whether there was something very different with it, like needing specialized tools. But it doesn't sound like there's nothing like that involved
