I think its a terribly looking thing. All the sporty bits look like cheap add ons and the gaping front end looks badly designed. Not sleek in any way. I quite like the normal xf though.

Yeah when they came out first I thought they looked better for some reason - maybe those pics don't do it justice - outside of the exhausts it just looks like any other XF

I love the XFR. That's around the same price as a new M5 correct? If so then that depreciation is pretty bloody awful. I'd murder one though! Black with cream leather.

I think it's the colour of that one that doesn't do it justice.

Had a spin in an SV8 when the XF first was released, that was a quick car, so I can only imagine what an XFR would be like.

TBH, if I had that money to spend, I think I would buy one over an M5, just to be different (No offence Baz....!)

I was very enthusiastic about the XF when it was first launched and couldn't understand the criticism about its front end. I now however see what people were on about now that it's a common site on the road; the headlights and the plastic looking front grille particularly doing the design no favours at all.

Still, it's a hell of a lot nicer than the new XJ.

Crying out for a high speed de-chrome.

I wouldn't mind giving him 1000 and 'driving' its 500bhp for a week but as far as Im concerned a cat is for Christmas not for life. Not a good looker at all, looks very American and in a bad way I mean.

The new XJ is stunning IMO.

Are the last of the old XJ going to be proper classics in a few years? I will miss that old shape anyway.

It has some serious road presence. Give me one over an S-Class or a 7-Series any day.

Lovely car but such a change from the traditional ones.

That press photo is quite a flattering shot of the car and it is in a spec that we will most likely never see on Irish roads. You will find that the car looks a lot worse in reality:

I certainly can't see the XJ winning rear of the year. I wonder what the XFR reliability is like? I know a guy that has the XF diesel (old 2.7 engine) and he has had a number of problems.

    Prepare to comiserate.

    Behold, my XFR.
    whatwas1.jpg

    whatwas2.jpg
(The grey convertible in the background is my S4)

Why would I want to comiserate, you may ask? After all, I only paid $68k (US) or so for it new on the road (military discounts), even came with the adaptive cruise control.

I drove it exactly twice. Once from the dealership to the DMV, and then to the armoury parking lot, from where I sold it. A total of about 20 miles.

The plan, such as it was, was to sell the S4, and use it to finance the Jag. Much though I would miss the convertible top. I was not, however prepared for the vehement response from Household 6. Either the Jag went, or the wife and kid went. All I have left are the UK license plates it was imported with. At least I didn't lose too much money on the thing. I still have the S4.

My impressions, as a proud owner? Not that I could really enjoy it, as I knew I was going to have to keep the miles down, but compared to the S4, (or our 2004 A6), it really is a luxurious car. A fair few nice touches, good use of technology. Granted, five years more modern, so you'd hope so. Seemingly well built, though there was a bizarre hole in the interiorwork where the fuses went. No complaints about the acceleration, but I was unable to really throw it around to check out the handling. The ACC (radar cruise control), even on the most distant setting, seemed disturbingly close to the vehicle in front. It worked, it kept a distance, but I am unconvinced by the opportunity for an emergency braking. Perhaps with more time, I would have grown to trust it. Never used a flappy-paddle gearbox before, not sure what to make of it. Seemed to do the job though.

As for the appearance, the XFR does look a bit nicer than its less potent brethren, I think. True, I am not a fan of the bulges on the headlights, the XJ lights I think would have looked nicer, but from the back or sides, no complaints at all. And, in truth, it's not that the front is ugly, I think. As for the XJ, I agree, in person, I'm not a huge fan of the external appearance. (But then, I spend more time inside the car looking out than outside looking in)

Oh well. Maybe, one day, if I do finally decide the airplane ain't going to happen... Of course, by then the XFR will be old hat.

    NTM

I like the XF and the XJ even more - one thing I would say is they will age poorly and I think that the XF could have been the next Mondeo or any euro box if you had to have stuck the badge on it.

Im confused, why didnt you keep the Jag, what exactly was the issue?

On the XFR, Id like to drive one, if its more SClass (like I suspect) than M5 it would be a shame though. I would definitely dechrome that grille, makes it look Halfords tack cheap.

I discovered a cultural difference between my wife and myself which proved to be somewhat irreconcilable.

The interior (dash area) looks terrible imo. All that brushed alluminium or whatever it is looks naff.

It dont look that much different from the normal XF either. I would have the M5 anyday.

Even I'll admit the front end of the XF is a bit so-so.

However, I will say, wait for the mid-life facelift! Looks class imo.

New XJ is a big gamble, very controversial in a conservative segment. Its very colour sensitive (as is the XF).

I dont like the XF in black, it looks good in white or titanium.

The XJ isnt done justice in light colours, it looks better in dark or else white.

XJR is where its at though. Lighter than an XF with same 503bhp.

The appearance of this car has confused me since i first seen it a few years ago. Its pleasant but not amazing looking or anything. There are certain portions of the car that are a bit....bland.
Its a bit fat towards the rear pillars & that doesn't fit in with my view of jaguars. Its not distinctively jag. I know they had to update their design at some stage but i think they should have incorporated a bit more 'old-school' into the finished shape.

The interior is stunning though. No complaints there.
