What kind of bike do I need?

I really want to get back in cycling - I love it.

I'd like one that I can use on tarred country and city roads, and some gravelly roads, like ones you sometimes get on cycling trails.

What sort of bike should I get? And hit me with it, what should I be willing to pay for a decent one? :) Are places like Donedeal good for things like bikes?

Oh, I'm female, by the way.

    Thank you. :)

If you can use the Bike To Work scheme you can spend up to €1000 and save over half of that in taxes.

You'll get a decent entry-level road bike for maybe €600.

That's kind of the price range I thought it would be, but would it be just decent or should I spend a bit more?

I've spotted a Trek 7.3 Hybrid on donedeal second-hand, apparently only used once for E500. Good? bad?

Also, a Trek 7100, also apparently barely used for E310.

I would say a hybrid would be a good compromise for this.

300 Euro should get you something decent second hand.

In that case buy a triple. That means it has three gears on the pedal thingies to make it easier on the hills.:)

500e seems like a lot for a second-hand fx. I think the 7.3 is only about 600e brand new.
Whatever you do buy make sure it's the right size for you, that's probably the most important thing to consider.

I'd cut that by 50% at least for the type of riding she has in mind. I'd say 200 would get a very adequate second-hand hybrid.

Thanks for that, both of you. :)
