right, so i failed my nct on co emissions on the low idle and lambda emissions on the high idle.

my co is above the 0.50% and my lambda is above 1.03

can anyone give me any sort of indication of what might be involved in fixing this or is it one of those things that could be any number of problems?

    thanks

put in one of those nct treatments from halfords and see how it goes through it then and if it fails take it to your mechanic.

Did you rev the crap out of it before you got to the test center? If not, do that. A bit of dipetaine in the fuel tank won't hurt either.

With such little info like what car age mileage its hard to say but if the readings are not way over get yourself down to motor factors and pick up some diptane its about a tenner a bottle do a fulll fuel fill with this stuff and drive the car on it for a while then bring to nct it really works otherwise you will prob need to get your lambda sensor mass air flow meter and cat checked they are just a few of the many possible causes of bad emissions and can be costly to replace.

Probably need a new lambda sensor in the exhaust system. Shouldn't cost a fortune I dont think. I personally always rev the crap out of the car on the drive up to the NCT. Im not sure what this does though other than make me feel good but it has worked so far:D

Ps it may just need a new air filter ,oil , and sparks, has it been serviced properly?

How did you come to this conclusion?

lads whats the story with revving the **** out your cars before the n.c.t?

when the cat is at operating temperature, its either working or its ****ed.

if its blocked/ rattling/ not operating properly, no amount of revving is going to cure it.

brining your car to the test center at operating temperature should be fine.
