    alright lads.

a lad in my cycling club (st tiernans) got his apartment broken into earlier on today, some of the racers here might know him, Tulga, the guy from Mongolia.

everything of his was taken, a brand new laptop, cameras, phones, money, the usual, and everything of his flat mates to,

whats most precious to him are his two bikes, a Raleigh Avanti, similair to this one (his isnt carbon)

    AVANTI%20Carbon%20Race.jpg

and his new Specialized sl2 here

    5515452500_494c71781c_b.jpg

as you can see by the photos, that specilized bike is no piece of crap, so its bound to be noticable when some hooded sham is riding it.

Tulga, aka, Tuck, is not your usual cyclist, rich (no offence), he's an average lad that works in a pub, so quite frankly this is basically his life savings after being robbed, and to say he's broken hearted is an understatment.

if anybody is offered, or sees the bike, get the guys number, saying you're interested, and pass it on, or just log where it is, if you dont want to get the scummers number.

oh, it was stolen from a 4th floor apartment in the IFSC, if that makes any difference.

cheers lads, any help would be great

Ah no, that's awful. I met him one day spinning out towards Howth. Nice chat. He must have been on the Avanti 'cos I would have noticed the SL2...

ah man thats a bad buzz, seems to be a lot more bikes goin missing from that kneck of town. thing is id say there less than a stones throw away

That's awful. I only know Tulga to see around at the races, and I think I saw him with his new steed last weekend in Summerhill. I'll certainly be looking very closely at any SL2s I see around now. That fizik sticker and the tape are distinctive. What size is it? 52 or 54 I'd guess?

    Yeah, I think 54

The annoying thing is he lives on the 4th floor of an apartment complex, it's not like you could just randomly break into such and such an apartment on the 4th floor, sounds dodgy to me

Ex-tenants of the same building may still have keys to external & internal security doors. Then only the flat door needs to be forced open. And in alot of cases they're not great doors.

Sorry to hear that, I know him to see him from the league races. I'm working in CSS, so if anyone comes in with it looking to flog it I'll let you know.

I was admiring this bike last week at the race in Summerhill. I hope he gets it back ...

    :(

    That pisses me off.

Not being cynical but thats a stones throw from east wall / sheriff street. Where another recently (last 3 days) stolen spesh road bike has been seen.

This is quite worrying TBH as regards High end bikes, obviously there is a market for them, The pond life who buy these are as bad as the scum that rob. ****ing parasites.

Anyone attending the sunday market just off the M1 Naul Balbriggan rd or fairyhouse keep an eye out, as most of these scum bags are clever enough not to advertise a bike of this class and the likes of this place is where they are being traded/swapped by similar lags from elsewhere on this island.
I might be in fairyhouse this weekend and will keep an eye out.

Thats poxy luck, first thing i noticed this year was the new bike, will keep the eyes peeled

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭macadam

The sunday market is just off the M1 on the naul balbriggan rd heading into balbriggan take the 1st turn right, right dodgy outfit dont bring any valuables or leave same in the car, gardai regularly patrolling.
I lost a bit of plant earlier in the year and a local detective told me this was where most of it is being traded or swapped never got ut say I was too late.

    I think its off M1 junction 5.

Chris, Dave here from the club, posted this on our site, Twitter and FB. It's awful news. I had a bag with most of my life in it go walkabouts two days ago also. One of your other club members, Eoin, had his Lapierre nicked from DIT Bolton Street. It's an ongoing problem there. The guys have good equipment and are sending minor scum in to check the bikes out first. This isn't your usual blasting a lock with a hammer for 3 mins, they have good tools and are taking a number of bikes a day in the area. When approached they are threatening the students with violence.

any security cameras around the apartment block.

****ing scumbags. Id love to break their hands, unfortunatley I tend to know better :(

+1 to checking the security cameras, hope they get the guys bikes back. I know if I was lucky enough to have one of those I'd be devastated at it's theft.

im just bumping this back up lads, cheers

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 224 ✭✭mattock

There has to be someone in that general area that knows what stolen gear is moving about as most of these scumbags have to answer to someone, ask a few local Gardaì or Doormen for a name or a number you might get lucky and buy it back for a minimal sum (I know its yours, but if you offer a reward of something like €200 for its safe return it would be better than having to replace it)

2nd exit for balbriggan, i.e miss the first one, get off at the second one. Then take the third exit (i.e go all the way around the roundabout), through the next one and its the next turn on your right. you ll know it as you ll see the traffic.

I'd never go near these markets for that exact reason. I would of taken a spin up to look for you but im away this weekend, sorry.

    no nothing

the club are hoping to organise a quiz night to try and get a few bob up for Tuck, its the least we can do

thanks for the replies lads, it keeps the thread up the top anyway

Spoke to Tuck after the race last week in Summerhill. He was delighted with his bike. The Spesh is very nice, but the Raleigh might actually be more rare. Im keeping an eye out for it, as i trade a little in bikes & bits. Count me in for any fundraisers, but there must be loads of cctv around the ifsc?...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 623 ✭✭✭J Madone

    +1 on the fundraising
Spoke to his club mate Bren on Saturday about a donation, as I probably won't make a quiz night.
I have never spoken to Tulga but know him to see from the races, feel so sorry for him , practically losing all he has worked for.
Anyone who races with him or knows him should consider a donation of whatever amount big or small
I'm sure Bren will be at the Paddys day race to pass on the donations

there is CCTV footage alright, but the 2 lads had hoods on, so the faces are unrecognisable, it actually bugs me every time i think about it, besides the bikes, all the people in the apartments media hard drives where stolen, and i know in Tucks' case, that was every photo he's had of family and friends all gone now,

i do think its too late to ever get the bikes back, but id still love to see these 2 ***** caught and actually sentenced, but we all know how our lax laws work over here

this is true Madone, i know Tuck is extremely proud, and perhaps feels a little embarrassed about hand outs, but as the Tesco add says, "every little helps", i personally dont think he should feel embarrassed in any way, shape or form,

if it was any of us that got their whole life stolen from them, we'd have family and friends to rely on, so there should be no difference for Tuck imo

BTW, Madone, where you the lad from Bray Wheelers parked beside Bren at the finish?

either way, that was one cold and wet day to be racing, ive been nursing a tendon strain in my knee, and have been chomping at the bit to get back on the bike, but i can openly admit, looking at that weather on saturday, i was happier sitting in my van with my sore knee

terrible news, will keep my eye out for anything. What station is handeling the inquiry?
    incase anything is seen

Work and am in college in city center. Also has the issue been raised with landlord. There may be possibility of insurance

Wish I had some helpful information to post but all I can say is I'm sorry to hear about this.

It's one thing that you can't even have a good bike locked on the street without the fear of it being stolen. But it makes me so pissed off that a guy who fucking well grafted to pay for his bike can't even keep it in his own home.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 EnderWigign

Although I can't offer any useful information, I am sorry to hear this. I really sympathize with the guy, it is a real sickener.
I had a Specialized Tarmac stolen two weeks ago. It was just the Elite model. I am watching out for my bike along with other people. If I see anything related to the above bikes I will certainly let you know. Hope he gets them back

Any update on the search? Or the quiz / fundraiser.
Do the club league with the fella and really empathise with him...

Is there any database for stolen bikes?
If not should we have one here, A sticky with, just one post with a photo and details of every missing bike?
    Sympathies to Tuck.
