I am currently a first year arts student and although I am content with the course I am looking into the possibility of trying out something different and changing from arts to commerce if this possible. I am just wondering if it is possible to change? I know that I would have to start from scratch and start in first year commerce but am willing do it and does anyone know how I would go about changing if possible? thanking you :)

yeah im sure you would be able to if you wanted, though id imagine you wouldnt be entitled to free fees or a grant a second time around for first year if you recieved it this year.

not sure if you would have to reapply through cao or go talk to someone in the arts dept about it. they can steer you in right direction

If you need to go through the CAO then the Leaving Cert points will likely come into play again. As said above, though, you should talk to your Dean. They deal with this sort of thing regularly and will be able to answer all of your questions:
