Hello, my son will be starting hurling next week and needs a helmet. I only found out today that they cost about €70!!! As I am not sure if he will stick with hurling (pardon the pun!), I was curious as to whether anyone would have a loan of an old helmet that they are not using any more that would fit a 6 year old boy!!! Long shot I know, but just thought I'd ask :D East / Southeast region

    Thanks,

    Malerie xx

    Hi Malerie,
Normally the club should have a few second hand helmets which you may use until you decide to go ahead and purchase one. Just ask some of the mentors/coachesand they should be able to help. Its not an unusual request so don't be afraod to ask.

I'll be registering him on Friday so will ask about that. It'd make sense really! Thanks for that,

If he does persist, you can get hlemets more cheaply very often through the club or the county board.

My young nephew (age 5) has started hurling in his school a couple of weeks ago. He was able to buy a helmet through the school at a reduced price. I'm not exactly sure how much, but I think it was around €30-40. Alot cheaper than €70 anyway.
So OP, you could contact your son's school to see if they have a similar scheme available.

    Hi,

The club might provide a helmet for you. My club provides helmets for the Nursery. That is up to 7yrs old. When they go playing go games that is when we ask parents to purchase a helmet. So they have a full two years use of the clubs helmets & hurls.

    Hi
If the club or school can't help Smyths toys are selling Aspis helmets for around 30 euro that meet the GAA standard. http://www.toys.ie/Sports-Equipment-!WCAT23-cat.aspx?SH=&SI=&LAP=&Action=3&Page=1&did=&category=&subcat=&Profile=&ppagesize=&sort=S

I got the adult size one a few weeks back and from what i could make out by just looking at a few of the top brands they're the exact same.
