TV COLOURS DARK ON CABLE...HELP

So when i play xbox or even bring in my upc box from my sitting room in the colours are perfect but when I just have the cable on the colours are really dark, its very annoying...i tried adjusting thru several ways on adjusting the contrast, brightness etc...to no avail!!
