THE LAW Society will close its law school in Cork at the end of this academic year in July.

The decision was taken by the council of the society last month for both educational and economic reasons, according to a report in the current issue of the Law Society Gazette.

According to the Gazette [...] and losses of €1 million would have arisen in the next three years if the school was not closed now.

That seems like a staggering number! Was the Cork law school premises rented or purchased? :\

It would be interesting to know what the actual figures break down at.

It's interesting because the competition authority are big into setting up alternative training colleges for solicitors and barristers. If the Cork Law School was closed because the Law Society just want to consolidate generally then fine, but if it was not sustainable as an independent venture, it will put paid to a lot of the theories that the CA have put forward.
