The seat slides back and forward like usual but it won't click into position, the handle 'feels' ok. I had a look around and there is nothing obvious to remove like 4 bolts or something to get the seat out. Anyone here remove one of these seats or maybe have come by this problem before? If my father has to get a second hand seat, well let it be but it would be great(cheaper) if I could fix it for him. Its not an electric seat.
    cheers lads

It is a 3 door or 5 door? If a 3 door they may have a memory setting that locks when seat is put forward to let someone in to the back and this may be damaged.

The seat slides back out of the rails if I remember correctly.

Remove the clip from the front and the 2 plastic covers over the seat rails and slide the seat all the way back

To remove a mk4 seat you will need a torx driver T20 or T25 if i remember rightly and a 10mm socket.

    1. push the seat all the way forward, you will see to pieces of plastic cowling covering the rails these are held on by one Torx each which are covered by a little round plastic tab, gently pry up the tab and remove torx.Pull up the two covers.

2.Under the front of the seat in the centre is metal bracket with 2x10mm nuts at front undo these and push the seat back out of the bracket, gently slide the seat back on the rails until the 2 wheels 'de rail' or pop out of the rails.

3.Tilt seat back slightly to gain access to the underside so you can disconnect the airbag and heating elements (if included) airbag = yellow,Elements = green. NOTE make sure the key is not in the ignition when unplugging the airbag,no need to disconnect the battery or anything pointless like that.

4.You are now free to remove seat from the car easiest way out is through the back door.

Now as for your problem the adjuster handle at the front is connected via a wired cable (like the brakes on a push bike) to a set of clamps that run along a beam in the centre or the seat, when you pull the cable the clamps are released allowing the seat to slide on the beam, and when you release it locks the clamps again. So i recokon the cable has popped out at either the handle end or the clamp end, should be pretty obvious once you have the seat out.You might even be able to assess by just going as far as step 3 and tilting the seat back onto the rear bench.

    Hope that helps.
