God help us. The prison gates will be flung open, deportation orders will go unsigned for months on 'humanatarian grounds' .... Not looking forward to the next few years in this country :(

Is it confirmed by the parties or is it still at the idle gossip stage? Always assumed Shatter would insist on Justice.

Labour no doubt have their viewpoint on the constitution and will bechampioning their interpretation of it as a living document, ie subject to interpretation in light of current societal mores.

i would much much prefer fine gael in charge of justice. to be fair to them there is no doubt that they would take a much firmer stance on criminals than labour would

I'm most worried about the Attorney General position. God help men in this country if it goes to Ivana Bacik as I expect...

It isn't likely to go to ivana Bacik, there are at least two serious contendors ahead of her, and maybe more.

I don't think that's just a Labour interpretation, that is how it is interpreted - like Canada's 'living tree' idea. Isn't their aim re: Constitution to redesign a new one and have a referendum? The wording of the human rights section of the Constitution is too difficult to liberally interpret around, even though there have been attempts! I'd say a reboot is more Labour's idea than liberal interpretation - not up to Labour anyway how it's interpreted.
