Hi I really want to get one of theses and i've seen a 2007 for under 8k.
Think they look great but are they good to drive , reliable etc.

Also price is gettin me a bit suspicious as the 2007 ones are going for around 10-14k in the garages and this is a private seller.
Advertised with email only , no phone details , replied saying they were in uk at the mo but that i could view the car on sat.
They did give me the reg no of the car to check it out thou.

    opinions please

    Thanks

It's a scam. There's a scam sticky at the top of the forum.

That never looks good tbh. It's sounding scamtastic to me.

Wasn't there a Golf 1.4 GT, that just had an 80bhp version of the crappy 1.4 engine in regular golfs?

There was a GT Sport trim that replaced the Sportline. Not the same as the GT spec with 170 ish bhp petrol and diesels.

it does sound strange ,i enquired about a jet ski months ago, advertised on internet with loads of pictures, but when i made some enquiries into the ski in detail, it looked like the ski was going to be stolen to order for me,so just be careful, remember the saying ,"if it looks to good to be through, the chances are it is too good to be through".

I'm not saying it IS a scam but I do remember there was some scam on carzone a while back with something to do with the owner saying he was in the uk or something. It could be 100% legit but I just thought a link would help.

The OP is prob comparing the prices of the 170bhp GT sport golf, and the 80bhp gt.

    thanks for all the replies

not sure if its the tsi engine must ask

as far as i know its NCT 11/2011 and taxed up to October 2011 so i'm not sure if thats the right link up on driving .ie, but i'll set a link up later - all car sites are banned in work :(

Not true, the GT became the 'GT Sport' in the summer of 2007, I have a September 07 170 PS petrol GT Sport. Radiator badge is 'GT Sport', rear badge is 'TSI'. Sportline trim option was withdrawn at the same time.

That car in the link above posted by high horse is from the first half of 2007 because the rear badge is 'GT' whereas mine is 'TSI' and the front badge doesn't have the 'Sport' bit under the GT badge. It's a 170 all right, the twin exhaust was only on the 170 PS (actually 168 bhp) model.

If it is it's definitely a scam, the mileage is very low and it's otherwise identical to mine, that price is obviously designed to attract gullible people who can't see a scam when it's biting them in the face.

Wasn't aware you could get a 170 1.4 Golf outside of GT spec. Thought the tsi badges ones were just the 122 and 140s. Unless the badges have been messed with?

It is a GT, what I'm saying is that all GTs became GT Sports in the summer of 2007, my car is a 100% kosher GT just with 'Sport' added to the GT badge. In roughly July 2007 they did away with the Sportline package (sports seats, MF steering wheel etc.) and added it to the GT model which then became GT Sport.

Because if the asking price is ridiculously lower than similar cars then chances are it is a scam. Thing is that most people get blinded by the really cheap price which is the honey trap of this type of scam.

+1 also the absence of a phone number and the plates blanked off. Simple way to find out is to email the seller and you will get a big sad story that the car belongs to his dead brother and he lives in USA blah blah blah.
