Google Contacts

    Hi all,

I'm seeing a lot of duplicated or 'joined' contacts on my phones contact list. I'm only syncing to one gmail account and when I look at the contact list on there I only see one entry per contact yet on my phone I often get two versions which might be slightly different either in terms of how the names are displayed e.g. O'Brien Vs O' Brien or how the contact numbers are displayed e.g. +353871234567 Vs +353 871234567.

Also, when I look at a contact in the contacts app I sometimes see it has two little 'G' symbols meaning it is two "joined accounts" but when I click on the Joined Accounts it lists the two accounts identically simply as "Google" with an option to remove either but no way of opening either to suss out where it's coming from.

    This is driving me crazy.

    Can anyone shed some light?

    Ben

If the contacts is sync'd with your gmail, there is a de-duping tool in the web version.

Might be more info in there.

You could go into gmail and check the contacts out there. I had something similiar.

I just edited and deleted duplicates there and the problem was sorted afterwards.

When your in your contacts list, go into menu and display options, then choose which contacts you wanna show. It could be you have the same contacts on the SIM card that you have on gmail. So just hide them.

google sync will only sync contacts contained in 'my contacts' in your contacts list. you can find and remove duplicates by clickin the 'more' drop down menu and clicking find and merge. id suggest clearing out your phone, going to web UI and fixing that up, then re-sync.

once the contacts are all correct in web ui do a sync and everything should be pushed down nicely. what phone have u got?

In Jelly Bean (and I think ICS), press the menu button on your contact list, then "Contacts to display".
On my phone I've got a list of contact sources, Last.fm, Facebook, Google (Gmail), Google+.
By default it selects "All Contacts". Just select Google Gmail if that holds your "master" list.
