Does anyone know who writes it? (I'm assuming it's not Nico, since I doubt he's got time to be sitting at a PC bashing out 500 words after each stage, so I'm guessing he chats to a hack who actually produces the article.)

If he does write it all himself, it's very well done.

His account of stage 2 is excellent. Crashes, fights, mechanicals, railway crossings - great stuff.

Makes a stage of a continental pro-tour race sound like a Friday morning on Moore St -

"'After the line they traded slaps like a couple of aul ones'"

    That's good writin':)

Saturday and Sundays diary in the Indo today: Link
The team doctor asked me what I had for breakfast and I told him I wasn't feeling hungry so I just had an omelette.

    ^^^
This isn't the first time that he hasn't eaten enough food before a stage and then performed badly, and in this case, abandoning the race!

amazing really considering these guys burn through several thousand calories a day that he still makes a mistake like trying to race on an omelette (unless it was stuffed with pasta i suppose)

He mentioned that he'd been trying to be careful with his diet since coming back from injury. He obviously overdid it. It happens. Contador bonked in Paris Nice two years ago too.

The OP of that thread in News & Media is currently banned from the Cycling forum. Because of this, I'd ask people not to comment on his thread here, since he will be unable to respond to remarks. If you want to discuss it with him, do it over in News & Media.
