Taxing a car that has not been taxed in a while

    I just bought a car from a dealer and the tax was out of date on 06/10 and i dont want to have to pay all that back tax.

    Is there a form i can get or something ?

    you wont have to. when your ownership paperwork arrives, you will only have to tax it from the date you took ownership of the car.

    Yep, you only pay tax from the begining of the month that ownership transfered to you.

    Just dragging this back up as i'm taxing the car in the morning.

    It's not been taxed since 06/2010, i've the receipt from buying the car and i'm sure the log book will arrive today . Is that all i need ?

    Form RF100 filled out and the logbook along with the fee is all you need. Date of ownership commencement is on the logbook.

    No, you only need a Garda stamp if you wish to declare it off the road for a period during which you were the owner (section 5.3 of that form).

    If you're going to pay the tax from the start of the month in which you bought it, then you don't need it stamped.

    It was in the dealers. I just bought it. They just didn't sell it.
