160 Euro for car service!

Hi all, I bought a 07 Fiesta in September last year. I got a year's warranty from the Ford garage but there's a catch - you must get it serviced in that garage before 12,000Km or 9 months (whichever falls first). I've put just over 11,000Km on it since buying it but the service is 160 Euro...........that seems a little expensive to me.
There's a total of 38,000Km on the car so it's in pretty good condition.

Do you think I should just get it serviced from a local mechanic for 50 quid and forget about the warranty??

    Thanks

He wouldn't have much out of 50 after changing with the correct oil. 160 is not to bad depending on what getting serviced.

I would say the garage would only be changing the oil too. The local mechanic has always done a good job for me with my old car.

Your garage appear to be placing very strict conditions on your warranty. I would guess that the manufacturer service interval for your car is longer than 12000 km or 9 months, Id say its at least 15000 km or 1 year. You would want to get this checked out IMO.

With new cars, to maintain warranty, you only have to use any VAT regd garage and use proper quality parts. This should be sufficient to keep your warranty too but seeeing as your garage are giving a full year warranty (which would be above the normal warranty given on a used car) perhaps they are allowed to apply conditions to it but Im certain that they cannot force you to service it more frequently than the manufacturer requires.

For the dealers warranty they can stipulate whatever conditions they wants as this is not the manufacturers warranty which stands for a minimum of 2 years.

    x2.

sounds like they're trying to keep work at home. clever idea, but you need to ask yourself, if you warranty is out in 3 months (or less) do you really give damn? just get it serviced where ever you want at 15k?

That's what I was thinking.......just leave it for another few months and then get it serviced at a normal price. Besides it says the warranty does not cover wear and tear items - tyres, suspension, exhaust etc.
The contract for the warranty clearly states 12K or 9 months btw.

What work did they carry out for the service?

Can't really complain about the cost without knowing what they actually did. I could complain that my last service cost me €350! Everyone would be up in arms, but I got a new set of disks and pads, so €350 is actually pretty decent value.

They haven't done the service yet. Please read the thread before posting.
But after 12K I doubt there is much wrong with the car. I'd be fairly certain that they will change the oil and maybe the spark plugs. That's about it. They fully serviced it when I bought it in September.

id recomend change oil every 10k kms ... i have brand new car, wich has to be serviced @ 15k kms or within 1 year, and i noticed, that after 12 -13 k kms ish, she wasnt any more so economical... bit slugish ... after oil service, car was like new, noticeable changes ... again more economical and more power.

Why dont you find out what is included in the service, saying "i think they'll just" isnt really enough as you dont actually know, and like another poster said, for €50 to your local lad wont be doing much of a job on the car for that money

    -Oil - €25 approx
    -Air filter - €10 approx
    -Oil filter - €10 approx

    Already bordering on €50 :pac:

An 07 fiesta is due services every 20,000kms or 1 year assuming its the most popular 1.25 petrol.

A 40k service(if that it what they plan on doing at 35k) should include an oil and filter change(5w30), a pollen filter change, and a brake fluid change(due every 2 years) as well as a full inspection.

Spark plugs and air filter are due every third service(60k, 120k etc)

Thats assuming that Ford are following their own service scheduals, which many main dealers don't!

I thought this was a bargain alert to be honest!

Very long intervals for plugs, considering that they aren't long-life platinum tipped ones used in those cars.

Thats Fords own scheduals. I presume they have done some research on the matter.

The cleaner and engine burns the longer the sparkplugs will last hence why all the latest engines have much longer intervals.
