Wouldn't a child seat be more comfortable and safer than a board?

to me baby on board signs just mean "hi, im a stupid woman driving a car with no concern for other road users and may pay attention to my screaming child covered in its own bodily waste at any given time, I will drive really slowly on the motorway and jam on the brakes for no reason , I will be offended when I do something wrong and you beep the horn at me but it doesnt matter because I managed to do something that only 90 odd % of the rest of the women in the world do - I popped one out

I May be wrong (i'm sure i'll be corrected), but are they too inform the emergency services there may be a child onboard if there's a accident ?

i just dont see the point...ok missus if im potentially going to have a crash ill steer my car into a wall, or indeed anything rather than hit your car

I think they were initially used for emergency services, but now it is an indicator as to why the driver may be driving more slowly and overly careful on corners instead of ripping around the place like the rest of us ruffians.
Easy to see when delicate OAPs are on board with the silvery blue aura coming from the passenger seats, hard to see a baby though.

That's exactly what they're for. Women pretend its for safety. I think the whole suv popularity is similar. People pretend its for their kids safety, but its really the parents that want an excuse to buy a "jeep".

See a lot of them alright.
Often as they park as close as possible to the school gate in case Johnny or Mary had to walk 100 metres to the SUV
I think they'd drive into the classroom if they could

Of course, by parking by the school gate, the small children can't see over the SUV so it's more dangerous, not less. As the children want to cross the road but can't see what's coming

Just something that bothers me and the whole "buy an SUV for safety" argument they justify them with

I dont have one of those signs up, but any time I carry my 17 month old daughter in the car I get entirely pissed off with w*nkers tailgating me climbing all over my back bumper. I drive at normal road speeds. Why do they do this. Doesnt piss me off as much if I dont have a child on board. I kind of thought maybe one of those signs would tell people to back off a bit, but I still wouldn't put one on my car. A better solution for me would be to round up the aforementioned impatient lunatic w*nkers and ban them from the roads.

My bf used to have a silvia years ago and the amount of people who were always trying to race was so annoying, they completely ignored the baby on board sticker, not that if you don't have one then that means you'll race but you know what I mean :)

Also you'll never drive as slow as when you're driving home from hospital with a baby or the first few weeks afterwards so hopefully if you have the sign up and you are going slow people will leave you alone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,620 ✭✭✭✭coylemj

If anyone thinks that having a 'Baby on Board' sticker will discourage tailgaters from driving up their arse, they're even more stupid than the people who tailgate in the first place.

The sticker is sold by maternity shops like Mothercare, they are bought by first-time parents who are full of joy at the arrival of their first child and want to announce the fact to the whole world and good luck to them but please don't expect the sticker to change any existing bad driving habits, it won't.

Why does anyone expect me to be extra careful or give them an extra wide berth just because they have a mini human in their car?

To me all humans and animals have equal status as entities that deserve my care and respect. It pisses me off that anyone should expect me to behave any differently just because it's a baby as opposed to any other aged being.

The argument that a baby is extra vulnerable?
Naah, dunno, what about old people? people with existing conditions or people with mental illness say?

I was never a great fan of babies tbh, they scare me and NO! they don't have "her eyes" or "his nose"....they look like babies and resemble no adult whatsoever....full stop.

    Deep breath

    happy place

    ahhh calm

And hence are an EXTREMELY BAD THING to have when the kid isn't in the car; which is 90% of the time I see them.

There is no truth whatsoever that the stickers are on cars re the emergency services. One of those urban legends that has gathered momentum over time. You hear various different versions.

Peoples driving skills should not differ if there is a child in a car in front or not. All life is precious, young and old and I cant understand people who think its allright to tailgate you (except when you have your child in the car)

Yeah glad to hear i wasn't the only one!

Ill be honest my attitude changed the first time id my young nephew in the car.
I became more aware of danger's it was like doing my first driving lesson again, its alot being responsible for a young life who didn't really have a choice of getting into the car with you!

But did i drive like a complete knob jockey far from it i was just extra cautious.

its true, all of it, also those baby on board stickers are dangerous, it seems as if as soon as they go onto a car the alloys get scuffed to sh*te and the bumpers have cracks and scrapes all over them

B-O-B signs remind me not to park my car next to them for fear of (more) dings.

Also serves as a warning that the SUV/MPV in front is liable to wander between the lanes, nip through red lights, and generally dance the brake lights on and off as they berate their kids at random times. I try to get past them as quickly as I can.

Jesus OP, you must be easily wound up. So what if someone wants to but a BOB sign on their car, it is their car to do with as the please. As long as it is tax, insured and NCT'd (if required) and drives within the rules of the road, so what if they put any stickers on their car.

Now breath, relax and forget about them.
