Civic Amenity Centres and auto fluids

Just been in to my local Civic Amenity Centre (CAC) in Boyle Co. Roscommon. I had with me some fluids from a recent car service that I did myself. Old oil, old brake fluid, old transmission fluid and some old coolant. (Yes it was a major service).

The Guy in charge of the centre did not want to take anything apart from the oil. I told him that the other fluids were toxic and could not be released into the environment. He was not happy but decided to go into the office and phone his hq (Roscommon Co. Co. I assume). He eventually reappeared and reluctantly told me that he would take the stuff this time but that the council were going to have discussions about this.

    So...where do we stand?

These CAC's are expensive enough. I had to buy a book of 4 tickets costing me €14 before I even went there so each visit is €3.50. Then what about the likes of these auto fluids. If the CAC won't take them, is there some other place that will? or do the CAC operators expect us to landfill hazardous chemicals?

    Any thoughts or comments ?

Find out where you nearest Vehilce End of Life centre is and ask will they take waste fluids from you.

If not then the council will have to take it.
