    Hey there,

On average what would you expect to pay for a pure bred 12 month old Charolais Heiffer?

    Thanks in advance. :)

    Hi,

    Many thanks for the link.

Does it make them more expensive depending on their breed?

Does €4,000 to €4,500 seem excessive for a 12 month old heifer? Even if her sire is 'the best' breed?

    Thanks a mill.

im no expert, but doesn't prices go on the weight of the animal?

Breeding is important alright. But top genetics are widely available, so an 'ordinary' animal can be extraordinarily well bred!
So there is more to it than breeding alone.
€4 to €4.5 K is getting into the realms of a very special heifer in my opinion, and anyone spending that sort of money would want to know exactly what they're spending it on.
Take the time to go to a few Charolais shows and you should get an idea of what is what.
Don't go rushing into anything with that sort of money.

No. Not really with pedigree stock. However at certain ages, stock should attain certain weights. (Weight for age)
In many cases the way pedigree cattle are being pushed, they weigh more than they should, and are overfed.
Commercial cattle are usually bought by weight alright. Again not always either.

Pedigree sale in carrick on shannon had about 15 Charolais heifers yesterday.
The champion heifer out of Doonally Nicefor was unsold at Eur 1500.

A few of the other heifers were sold at between Eur1100 and Eur 1450. In reality these heifers would have made better prices at an ordinary commercial mart.

    Disappointing for pedigree Charolais breeders!!!

They're not great prices in fairness for the calabor of heifer that Carrick gets. Have a few ped heifers and had decided to keep them for breeding. I'm glad now. Mine wouldn't be quite as good, so can't imagine what price I be offered for them:rolleyes:
