It's the little things....

Got a new Insignia 6 weeks ago. 2.0tdi. Nice car, very comfortable with plenty of toys and 130bhp to boot which is more than adequate.

However there are a couple of small things which are driving me mental...

    1. Indicators
Approaching a roundabout and switch on right indicator to take 3rd exit. Enter roundabout and turn wheel slightly to left to begin moving round the ra and indicator clicks off.
    2. Ventilation
Press button to clear windscreen, then turn down fan speed once screen is clear. Any time you start the car again the fans are back on full blast until you deactivte the button directing the air to the windscreen.
    3. B-Pillars
They're huge. Driving on motorway and look over shoulder to check blind spot before overtaking and it's b-pillar as far as the eye can see. Probably not a problem for everyone, just where I have my seat positioned.

What little things annoy you in your car?

De mister for the rear screen comes on at start up most of the time, I think it's linked to outside temp, pain in the arse.

The boot door needs to be tightened down a bit. Rattles a little on bad roads and drives me nuts. Common problem and easy fix.

The head unit automatically defaults to the phone at startup, even when the car was turned off with radio or map function left on. I know it's only the press of a button but why it does this is beyond me.

Diesel soundtrack is no substitute for a petrol one - I mean ANY petrol engine would sound better.

Air conditioning is always turned on when I start the engine

Visibility out the back window of my Skoda Fabia estate is pathetic.

Mine turns itself off according to some set of conditions that I haven't even come close to figuring out. Sometimes I've seen it do it when I've fiddled with fan/temp settings, other times it has just turned itself off after a random duration.

Why do you have the dial set to that position?!

Indicator stays on for ages! even after completing turn - have to turn it off myself

The digital climate control displays that controls the fan speed on either side of the car turns off when I press the fan speed right down to the lowest, thats fine. If the system is off when the car is turned off it stays off if I come back to the car within about 15 minutes.

But come back to the car after 15 minutes and start it up again, the system is back on again. Its incredibly annoying in the summer when I just want the sytem off and the windows down and not have hot air blowing in my face!

The "automatic" window closer. Drivers door has it. I go to close the window a tiny bit, it tries to go all the way up. Have to slam the button the opposite way! Yet when I want it all the open, it moves a measly little bit.

The stereo volume resets to a very low level each time you start the car.

Rear visibility is pants - like looking through a letterbox.

Window automatically drops a couple of inches when you open the door. That's only an issue in the very cold when the window seal is frozen to the window and it doesn't move at all, making it hard to close the door again.

I've the same in mine - and as the indicator ticking noise is quite low (or just drowned out by the diesel noise), it's easy to not notice.

The breaks make a very loud squeaking noise if I press them any bit and the best part is that the mechanics can't even fix it.

Heh, almost a year and a half ago I posted the same type of question :) It'll be interesting to see the answers now :)

The Insignia has massive pillars allright. They are also very blind coming of a minor road on to a major road. Its very hard to see whats coming from your right. They are very noisey as well.

Nice car though and a very nice mile eater. I had one last year.

    The petrol station

Also about the indicator in the insignia. Can't you click it further to stay on? A small click only indicates 3 times I thought? Was like that in the OPC Astra anyway.

You can set it for the start up vol on most cars.

I think it requires the dealer to set the default value. Not a biggie, just one of those little things!

Actually, now I think about it - there are no handles on the roof by the doors; another minor annoyance.

Just thinking back to my e39 525 - maybe it's rose tinted memories, but I can't think of many little niggles that annoyed me. The only one that springs to mind was that the tiptronic gear selection seemed the wrong way around. You pushed forward to shift up and back to shift down, when the opposite seemed more natural (though I think this could be changed by simply reversing the connector underneath).

Audio controls on steering wheel allow you to change tracks/CDs etc. OK but scan up-and-down for the radio - don't choose the pre-sets:mad:...

To me, that makes the most sense and its the way mine is set up also, forward to shift up and back to shift down.

Funny thing is though, my mates 525i is the opposite of what you say, back to shift up and forward to shift down. We hadn't a clue what was going on during the test drive, took a few seconds to cop it!

Is that the same as the MG 75?

Funny that - I've got a 735 and a Trans Am with a B&M Shifter kit - both go forward to shift up and just as well or I would have done damage to one of them by now otherwise in an absent minded moment!

06 3 series bmw indicator stalk is very annoying it is just push to operate 1 short push for 3 flashes, longer push for longer operation but selfcancelling is very poor and if you shove it up to cancel ,the other indicator comes on the then down to cancel that one you operate the other indicator really maddening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,688 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

I get annoyed by the distance baclwards I have to reach to grab the seatbelt (even with seat well back)and also the fact that the seatbelt cannot be adjusted for height.
Some other items of annoyance have been adjusted by vagcom.

No, in the Insignia, they've done away with the "soft" ndicator stalk which was in the old Vectra. It's mroe of a tradittional type of indicator, a small touch will cause 3 flashes but for constant on it clicks in to position and stays there until the auto-off switches it off.

Only a small thing but annoying at the same time.
