    Hi all,

Booked a game in the UK and leaving on Good Friday. Was wondering if the UK pubs are like Ireland for this weekend and ban drink on Friday or is it business as usual?

Googled this and answer is not clear...

    Worried now

They used to close for 3 hours in the day but you can drink at night for sure.

OP, it is worth pointing out that licensing laws are different in Scotland and NI (there is no such thing as UK law) so opening times in Glasgow will differ to London.

Where are you heading to? It might be worth contacting a pub or club there to find out, but you should be ok.

No problem going to a pub on Good Friday in England, they even open on Christmas Day

England is not a catholic country so catholic rules (even tho jesus and the 12 had wine on the night!! but for a different thread :) ) do not apply in england, also england has a 24 hour drinking policy so its up to the landlord of a pub/club when they close!!

Wouldn't have a clue for most of Britain, although I assume it won't be any different to London.

If you are headed to London, then you won't notice a difference between good friday and any other friday, especially in the centre of town.

yeah, of course they might well have had protestant laws against drinking, or Christian laws.

Certainly in Norn Iron - the place not to be on a Sunday is the protestant towns.

We do not have a 24 hour drink policy, you can apply for a 24 license very few have been applied for or granted.

Good Friday was always different to any other bank holiday as in the hours were Sunday hours, and some publicans keep to that

Any bank holiday, whatever day it falls on, would previously have had Sunday opening hours. Since the 24 hour licensing then you may find places open longer depending on where you are.

I don't think so, had a look at the 1964 act, and it only specifies Good Friday and Sunday for 10.00 noon to 10.30

Any bank holiday Mondays would have been 10:30 closing back in the day as well, don't know anything about if they were specifically mentioned in any act, the pubs definitely shut at 10:30 though. Well officially anyway.

Worth nothing though that people in the UK generally head out earlier than here, so earlier closing hours not so traumatic if you've been out since 6pm. Bright side - you'll be raring to go early on Saturday :)

Yeah right, one never ever went down the snooker club after leaving a pub at 10.30, depart said club at 0600

    Raring to go Sunday maybe

Of course there's late night places but not as many are open on Good Friday. But in general people go out earlier in the UK - so no big deal starting your night earlier. Note: their drinking up time is sh!t. Pubs are generally cleared 15 mins after last orders.

When I worked behind the ramp, it would have been 15 minutes before time
