Little Girls Bike

Anyone have any recommendations for a bike for a 5 year old girl?
She gets good use from her current bike, cycling to and from work every day.
Family ties means I will have to buy from my LBS, so Islabikes are out. That is not a bad thing as the Benin is not very girly and looks too much like her little brother's Rohan.
Looking for something of good aluminium construction, maybe coaster brake, baskets, pink or girly colour.

    Any recommendations?

He sends both kids up the chimneys - in fact here's a video of him taking them to work

At that age it's more a matter of what your LBS has in stock at any time - I suggest heading out there and seeing what they have in the right size - most tend to have something pink in;)

You will definitely need a rear carrier for the doll ...

The Beasty kids will be duly kitted out with carbon frames for that event;)

Specialized Hotrock is about the lightest kids bike I've found - most way more than my commuter. Nice build quality too (and comes in Pink)

I have a Hotrock and two Islabikes (CNOC 14 and 16).

TBH the build quality of the Hotrock is nowhere near the Islabikes, particularly the hateful bottom bracket design.

I'd agree, she has since progressed to a Benin, that is leagues better. But for a readily available mass produced bike, the Specialized about as good as you'll get

When I bought my sons (7) current bike I didn't pay much attention to weight, but have since realized it weighs almost the same as my MTB. Hes struggled to get going at it, partly because he has a bad hip, and his balance isn't great. I was wondering if a lighter bike would make much of a difference. Hes not that interested in cycling, but he needs to do it.

Most kids bikes I've seen in the stores are very heavy. Is there a big difference to a regular kids bike and a Hotrock or Islabike? Whats a Benin?

Depends what you mean by "regular kids bike". There are a lot of BSOs around which I've never weighed (neighbours might get a bit disturbed if I start following their kids around with a digital luggage scale).

The Hotrock isn't particularly light for it's size, but it is very small (at least the smallest version is). So it's a good starter bike for (say) a 3 year old - better than the Islabikes - unless you go down the balance bike route instead.

Decent kids bikes (with pedals) start around €120. CRC have the Dawes Blowfish which has comes in around the same sizes and weights as the Hotrock.

For reference, our two Islabikes come in at:

    Islabike CNOC 16, 7.85kg
    Islabike CNOC 14, 7.36kg

Balance bikes can be much lighter due to the absence of drivetrain.

The Beinn is just another model of Islabike.

I think my MTB is 14kg and my kids bike is like 12kg or something.

I've been cycling a Dawes Horizon for the last year and a half. It's quite a surprise to me that it's a kids' bike. I'm 183cm tall and it fits me quite well.
    ;)
