If you are talking about Data mode, no 3G network reliably can support voice or Fax over VOIP.

GSM can support fax using its quite reliable "modem" mode of 14.4Kbps. No TCP/IP involved, just dialup modem. AFAIK There is no equivalent mode on 3G.

GPRS can't send faxes, even if T38 is used. Timing.

Yes, 3G/HSPA can go faster than GSM, but IMO a backward political step in phone technology based on 2G USA dumb CDMA-one/EVDO way of doing stuff. 3G should have been a multi-time slot + multchannel + variable QAM backward compatible thing (A bit like EDGE2) and not the dinosaur of W-CDMA/UMTS/3G with its cell breathing, degradation of capacity with number of connections and lack of ability to sustain TC/IP sessions during signal breaks. They went for cheap and simple on Handset + American.

Now you have it. GSM Terminal is the Fax solution. Till they turn off GSM in a few years.

I used to test Fax machines installed on PABXes and eircom lines (inc ISDN) by sending to my Nokia Communicator 9200, and from the 9200 to the Fax.

It's a "voice call" charged per time to send Fax on GSM usually. Not covered in Data plans as its not TCP/IP or Internet access.

People sending you a fax will use your GSM number and be charged at PSTN to Mobile rates. (eeek!)

I think many GSM boxes with socket for regular phone will work. You can stick in DECT handset.

Eircom sometimes installs an outdoor version and phone socket in a house where they can't be bothered to run a real phone line.

Then Internet users find they can only have 14.4kbps dialup :(

All versions have a Rj11 phone port (FX port)
I think all versions support GSM CSD 14.4kbps V.110

It doesn't say if the phone port detects analogue modems and converts to GSM CSD 14.4kbps V.110 or if that needs the RS232 port (PC fax only rather than a real fax machine).

So you might need PC serial port based FAX on any of these rather than a physical fax machine on RJ11.
