First reply in thread pressure

I have noticed that there is a lot of pressure on the quality of post that is the first reply in a thread. I am often too nervous and intimidated to reply first in a thread as it should only be left to board heavyweights who have the wit of Wilde, the intelligence of Einstein, the cunning of Napoleon and the boldness of Armstrong. I simply don't have those qualities at the moment and often a threads success rests on the first reply - and that poster must be an absolute beast of a poster to deliver the thread the recognition and esteem it deserves.

First replies are often brilliant and get thanked 20+ plus times, they are everything and I am simply not up to that task just yet. Are you?

Strangely enough, I feel pressurised into waiting a while to ensure my post is not the second one - in order to appease the paranoid, over-analytical, fucking whinge-bags...

Pressured? You are using boards way too much if it creates that sort of emotion in you.

*Points to Brummy's reply and the 0 thanks*

Not all the time, it takes the cheek of an AH Troll and the wit of a Thankswhore to truly achieve greatness on the first post.

Jesus Christ OP you taking AH way to seriously. If you're feeble minded and weak willed enough to refrain from posting for fear of ridicule from cyberspace? Then you need some serious assertiveness/confidence training pronto!

First post is easy, it's the last post that is difficult to manage. Unless you're a mod, of course.

Is there any clique or gang I can join to boost online confidence? maybe some secret subforum where we have a pop at overly authoritarian mods?

Does anyone want to be cyber bullied? perhaps that would do the trick for me and gain me respect as a kind of enforcer on here

I don't know whether that thanks-whore stuff even exists, or to the degree it's believed. Someone has to post the first reply. What definitely does exist is a pain in the hole collective of people who bafflingly post on Boards to register their displeasure at stuff here they perceive to be a conspiracy against them, when it's usually just arbitrary and they're really not that important - thanks-whoring, post-count, mods, join date, cliques, preferential treatment. The latter two do exist but nobody decided to create them as a ploy to make newbs feel unwelcome - they just... happen, based on relationships between members. An expectation for newbs to be treated the same as those here five years is not a realistic one - it's a site made up of people, not robots.

Most of the 'overly authoritarian mods' are members/mods of the private forums ;)

I'm not sure where this thread can go, my hopes for it are fading and my confidence is once again as frail as Fabio Aurelio's body....if this doesn#t get to 10 pages I'll be a broken man

It's not about being the first its about why you want to be first and its usually these reasons:

    - Valid point on a topic you know a lot about
    - Thankswhore
    - Contraverial attension seeker

The precentages of which go like

    - Thankswhore - 50%
    - Contraverial attension seeker -50%
    - Valid point on a topic you know a lot about 0.00001%

was in the FIFA forum, strictly once in a while mind, some severely derpy young boys over there but someone posted a thread on the owl being kicked to death on the pitch by a player there, first two responses were "personally i don't see a problem.. but i suppose some might get all uppity about it :/" next was ""it looked dead to me. he just wanted to get on with it.." same fella with an "in support of soldiers" avatar, featuring a felled serviceman being stretchered off that tbh, looked 'dead' to me too but thats some cold shít!!
