Didn't study for the LC to any great degree, wasn't motivated despite having my "dream" course in sight. Accepted another course, at a college near home, and still not motivated. I believe that perhaps I have been overly sheltered, and that I need to move far away from home to regain it.

Has anybody else had similar problems? Did the independance help you to mature into a proper adult?

Yes, and yes, that's exactly what you need to do.

Your in some kind of comfort zone, and you need to take yourself out of it to unlock your motivation.

Expose yourself to new, different and challenging situations.

I hate to rain down on your parade but it sounds like your just running from your problem(s), would it not be better to just face up to them, you have already acknowledged there is a problem with how you face certain situations such as college. The key to motivation is consistency meaning you must keep trying at something no matter how many times you fail or get knocked down, this is how you produce good results and if you dont well at least you know you gave it your all. Just by leaving where you live now and starting up somewhere else does not mean that things are automatically going to be better or greener on the other side.

The best thing you can do is in my opinion is to finish your degree or course that you are doing so that at least you have some form of 3rd level education and at the same time think about what you are truly interested in, but just remember being interested in something does not mean you will be automatically good at it you need to work at everything whether you hate it or like it.
