VRT valuation

Does anyone here have any experience of dealing with the revenue on vehicle valuations when calculating the rate of VRT?
Im returning home in the next few weeks and bringing home a VW caddy 05. On the revenue website it seems to be really over valuing the vehicle and it has kinda got me worried about the amount they will want to charge.

Anyone any tips or advice for dealing with this issue?
    Cheers in advance

VRT Valuation isn't really DIY. If it was i'd value my car at 0.01 cent and let them charge it at that!

Anyway, moved to the main motors forum.

the vrt should be 50 euro if its a commercial vehicle. afaik that hasnt changed, i sell new vans and they are all 50euro to register and the last 2nd hand i did was 50 euro, that was probably 6 months ago

well if thats correct its good news, when i go onto the revenue website and go through the calc process it calculates it at over 1200 euro, speficies it as a commercial van under 3500kg.

    cheers for the help

AFAIK all the small vans are now 13.3% of value (omsp) to register. The days of the 50 euro to clear a van are gone ....

They changed the categories at start of this year, since the caddy is less than 3,500kg you dont automatically qualify for €50 vrt. You have to come into the N1 category by prooving your gvw is 130% more than your in service weight. Bring this info into your local vrt/nct office where they will process it and revenue will contact you within 10 days with the amount of vrt owed on the vehicle.
Im going through the same now on a vw transporter 06 where they were looking for €2818 because the unladen weight wasnt stamped on tax book so they classed it as a passenger vehicle until i got it weighed.
    Is it for business use?
